I use Photoshop, I just play with the quality, blur factor and optimization to get it down at the highest possible resolution.

I use the export features in Macromedia Fireworks. It the best and easies to use compression alogrithim I have seen. :)

Fireworks's export is teh win when it comes to making images web friendly.

I do my work in photoshop and then "copy visible" -> paste into Fireworks, export.

And this thread has taken a turn to the inane.

Insane, I thought.

However, I use the export feature in Pagis whatchitcallilt, because it compresses VERY nicely. I can get a 30k+ avatar pic down to 4k. Excellent. And as I still don't have photoshop (at least nothing newer than 2.0 gah!) I don't need anything fancier.
