View Full Version : Sig Question

To all those knowledgeable in the realm of HTML and sig-making; could you help me with my boggle please? :)

On the sig below, where it says: Prent Enterprises, Inc. how do I make it so that when you hover over the text you are able to click that section of the sig so it will take you to the appropriate location?

I believe I have to figure out the co-ordinates about the text or something like that first of all, how do I go about doing that?

Any advice would be much appreciated. :)

First of all you need to compress that jpg so that it meets the requirements of the SWFans.Net Forums FAQ. All images in a user's profile added together cannot exceed 30 KB. Your signature alone is currently 54 KB.

Ahhh, Image Mapping :)

you need an image mapper

I know all that but surely you'll allow a one off for this thread so that I can find out how to do this? Pwease? :angel

I just wanted to find out how to do it before I had the sig compressed, I didn't want to wait! :p

ReaperFett

it needs exact sizes to do, so it needs shrinking first :)

I know but what I wanted to know was how to do it - therefore the current sig size is irrelevant, presuming the method to image mapping doesn't change everytime a sig is shrunk! :p

<img src=http://www.yoursignatureimage.com/whatever/sig.jpg usemap=#jiang>
<map name="jiang">
<area shape="rect" coords="xx1,yy1,xx2,yy2" href="http://www.yourlinkgoeshere.com">
</map>

xx1,yy1 = the top left point in x and y coordinates where the Prent text begins.
xx2,yy2 = the bottom right point in x and y coordinates where the Prent text ends.

The code for it is in the attached txt document. Just copy-paste it into the appropriate area of your profile. I've also take the liberty of shrinking the image down to 24k and uploading it.

(Bows down to the respective Sig Gods)

I'm not worthy!

Nup, you didn't have to do that - thanks - you're a beautiful human being! :cool

ReaperFett

I would do it, but can't until compressed

EDIT- Sorry, would have done it :)

You're only fishing for me to bow down to you too Fett!

I know you too well! :p

Btw Nup, how did you reduce the size of the file without reducing the quality or size of the image itself?

TheHolo.Net

You can also add some text into this line of code:

<area shape="rect" coords="xx1,yy1,xx2,yy2" href="http://www.yourlinkgoeshere.com" title="Come to Prent Enterprises, Inc.">And when a person moves their mouse over the linked text a pop up message will appear saying

Come to Prent Enterprises, Inc.

Nup probably used the compression options in Macromedia Fireworks to fix the image size.

You wont be happy until you've fully mutilated my thread will you? :p

Once again, thanks for the neat tips!

Ken: I have a program called Fireworks (put out by Macromedia) which does an admirable job of reducing the filesize of jpg images. And I'm always glad to help. :)

Oh why must you mock me! :cry Your thread in which you asked how it was done, not for someone to just do it for you. (No offence Nup) :p So I figure the information on how, that I responded with, may help someone else with the same question.

Do you mean what will happen because of your actions, or are you just clueless as normal? :)

I have a program called Fireworks
I've got that at home, but I never knew what it was used for. I suppose I should install it and have a look. :)

Why? Can't you work it out for yourself? Oh yeah, I forgot - you're a midlander - hence "Clueless" is your middle name! :)

Firework's .JPG algorithm rocks. Also is quiet good with GIFs. Ahh... combined with Photoshop's "Copy Visible" well, its really nice.

Fettish, you can still map an image without the file size compression. The only thing that would affect the map, in terms of size, is if its width and height were adjusted.

The compression standard of 30K is for file size, whereas an image map's attributes are based on pixel coordinates that are affected by the signature's height and width.
