I am experiencing an erratic connection with regards to vBulletin boards, which precludes me from posting with any degree of certainty.

@_@ weird

Darth Viscera

agreed. And I've been trying to reply to my DivX.com rant, too. It's not often I make the front page. :\

Testing on WinXP, as opposed to Windows 2000. Security Updates may have something to do with it.

Test failed. Issue is not OS-related, at least as far as NT core-based operating systems go.

Test on lowest security setting on XP also a failure.

Which browser are you using? I experienced difficulty posting with Mozilla for a while.

Darth Viscera
Jan 31st, 2002, 10:21:22 PM
Tested with IE 6.0, Netscape 4.08 standalone, Netscape 6.21.

Darth Viscera
Jan 31st, 2002, 10:21:49 PM
In Netscape 6.21 it says that the connection has been reset by peer.

And you have no problem posting on non-vBs? Because that sounds like there's something wrong on your end. Try a good fdisk, my friend.

Darth Viscera

it's only a problem for me on swforums.net. Other vB's (such as doom9's) are fine.

Could it be that one of Ogre's hacks is somehow interfering with Vis' particular Internet Protocol?

Not that I really know much about those kinds of things, but I figured I'd throw that out there and see what people thought.

From what I can see, it is purely to do with his machine only and not SWForums. There could be a transient network condition on his end or a corrupt driver, a registry error....

This problem being isolated to a single case leads me to the same conclusion that DT just stated.

I have attempted to research the problem Viscera is having at the vBulletin.com forums and found no other cases similar. I have also, just last night, updated these forums to run the most recent release of vBulletin which fixed a number of code bugs though the majority were spelling errors in redirect messages that Admins get when performing specific functions. I had hopes that the upgrade may help resolve the problem, but now see that it didn’t.

Have you tried from a computer other than the one connected to the ISP you are using now Viscera?

Viscera!
Have you done a Virus Scan yet?

He has tried it on a couple of the PCs on his LAN with the same result.

Well, then he has a Network routing problem.
He needs to double check all of his network settings. And he needs to ensure those settings are correct.

Visc, run a 50 - 60 count ping to SWFans, and do a few trace routes. I think theres a screwed up router somewhere.

It's not the board, it's my ISP. Excite@Home should never have held out for more $$ even after they got a raise from the cable companies.

Well, this isn't the first time I've seen you say something to that effect. Hence, I took you seriously. My apologies.

Sarcasm often doesn't translate well on bulletin boards where people can see nothing more than a bunch of words in a post.

Moral to story: if you want to use sarcasm, use it in such a way that the sarcasm is obvious to the average user. Smilies in particular can help convery this effect (the :rolleyes smilie is particularly helpful in conveying sarcasm).
