Wow, I think I've increased my typing speed just by getting a new keyboard. I don't have to beat at the keys or avoid words containing certain letters anymore. X_x Yay!
Erk.. Sorry. ^__^;; I'm bored and seriously enjoying the new-ness of a keyboard. I'll shush now. ^_^

If you get REALLY racy...try setting your keyboard up for Devorac configuration. Akrabbim swears by it, even if I insist its just for bass-ackwards qwerty failures.

Sweetness! You got a new keyboard. I had my old keyboard and it wasnt working until I got my new computer and it came with an awesome keyboard.
:)
Charley...how would you go about doing that, and what is so special about the configuration?

I learned how to type shortly after I learned to write. Believe me, I put a lot of effort into learning to type 45 wpm in second grade, just to beat that Mark, who stole my girlfriend (apparently Rebecca believed he had "50,000 brains"). Well I beat the crap out of Mark in typing, and I nuked his panzy-ass "high" score in Number Munchers, too!
I've been typing this way for 15 years. I believe I passed the failsafe point for converting to Devorac before my 5th birthday :lol

I don't rightly know how to configure for that. I've never had a desire to do so.

:lol I've only been typing since I was 10. I was stuck on a joystick before that... :x I had an uber old computer that was just plain oogie. >_< It was a Word processor with images.

I was messing with computers and stuff ever since I was little.
Typing was just something I picked up and its natural. It's hard to believe that anyone can type below 100 wpm for me.
but thats me.

:x I was always forced to type with "Home Keys" when I was little. Never got the hang of it, either. So, meh.
I was also forced to play the scariest "game" in the word... Mario Teaches Typing..

Gosh, I remember typing on an Apple 2E in elementry School! It spelled elementry because we didn't have spell check in those days. We had to use a dictonary to look up our words! And we had to walk to school through an ice filled gourge. The ice would sometimes break and you would get your shoes wet, but other then that, and the underground tunnel that you could hide from the teachers in it wasn't as fun as this.

Would it mean anything to you if I said I was programming in assembler before most of you were born?
I'm sooooooo glad I dont remember much of that anymore. And machine code...... eeewwwww. Hex DWORDs. Registers. Memory mappings. Direct manipulation of the video output. Saved to cassette tape. I think I still have that old POS somewhere.
x_x
There you go. The "I walked 15 miles to school blah blah blah" post :)

Jan 21st, 2002, 04:50:26 PM
I go back even further than that. The first computer I used was DEC minicomputer that had 1/5 of the hard disk space of all computers in Sydney at that time at my fathers workplace. 1 inch mag tapes was how the OS was loaded and took up a room.
It was COOL. And so was the inbuilt game it had, WUMPAS.
The second mainframe was a Honeywell Bull DPS system, programmed in hex and toggle switches.

<-- goes back to the first PCs more or less. Apple 2's and 186's.
Gosh.. when CD-roms were brand new.. that was the coolest thing in the world. A game that didn't require DOS! I liked tank though. That was a great game.

I'm just another one of the boring people...
started typing when I was 9ish... graphics when I was 10... programming at 11... build my computer by 13...
I only type 120ish, according to the software at school, and the crappy standard keyboard I type on there. (NATURAL ELITE ALL THE WAY! My entire hand feels like crap after typing for a long time on a standard keyboard, but my natural elite makes it all good).

Ugh, no computer programming for me; couldn't do it to save my life. It's 3D modeling and animation for me. I do traditional cell work, too, but it's pretty time consuming. My favorite thing is making textures though, can't get enough of it.
The worst though is when you get the 3d max 4 equivelent of tetris head. I hate it when that happens.

Fact is tho, after 12 years of full time computer work and who knows as a hobby, computers suck. It's not really exciting anymore and besides, years ago I discovered....

I've been typing for as long as I can remember, my elementary school seemed to find it fun to teach us how to type fast real early....as far as computers, well I was never on them in my free time ('cept when typing out my numerous stories) up until I got caught up in the internet......
