With a cup of coffee, a thesaurus, and a hell of a lot of patience :)

some my head pops up with (Dark Star, and others like that.), others are from Magic, Star Wars/Trek, or different CCGs (The Rhystic, Vintara, ect.)

ancient greek/roman names are good. *thinks of one off the top of his head*

Vintices Vin-ti-ceez. Of course, I have no idea what a Vintices is, and it's probably not even a word in Greek or Latin. Still, it sounds mildly coolesque and even a bit sophisticated, so it would fit the bill as the name of a picket ship or corvette.

Ships that I've named before

Layla - Because I love the song

Silent Princess - a reference to Daleethria

Parragas - obscure reference from a DBZ movie. Saiyajin warrior who was the father of Brolly.

Oorru'Gurre'Gurre' - wanted something primal-sounding, so I sounded it out until I liked it.

Easy. I name ships after my cats or Rally Drivers.

The Superior just sounded Imperial (and I think I saw it on TIE Fighter).

The Flying Dutchman is named after an old Philadelphia Eagles' Player. What his real name is I'll never know.

I got a few more ships to name. NO clue what.

Depends. Most of the names are referances to things. The Snark being a referance to Lewis Carroll and the Strogg being a referance to Quake 2. Also, when stumped for coming up with a name for a SSD once, I looked at my collection of DVDs and decided that Phantasm would make for a good ship name.

I have to agree on the coffee and thesaurus thing.

Sanguine: red like blood...

the ship is black however but thats ok.

Well, I also sit down with a thesaurus and figure things out. Ships I've named:

Dark Falcon

Alcamedies

Grease Lightening...

I'm joking about that last one. ;)

I'm adopting a new ship-naming policy though. Now I'm naming them after girls I've had my way with, beginning with the SSD Your Mom

As of late I've used the names of some of my favourite BattleMechs, songs, shows, etc. It usually works for me, and if I can't think of anything, I just randomly come up with words *shrug* o.o

I just take ship names from video games. The gears in Xenogears, various things from Final Fantasy, a few latin words and some old military things..

Live Wire
Jan 18th, 2002, 04:10:05 PM
well Im not normally in the habit of naming larger ships but when I do personal ships for characters I try to make them fit the character. Kind of like how Mara Jade's ship was The Jades Fire. So for Live Wire I came up with The Lighning's Strike. I think LV named her ship the Cats Claw or something like that. I just like to think about a quality of the owner and figure out something that sounds personalized.

Star Phoenix was actually inspired by the Millennium Falcon....

Falcon is a bird.......So I went threw and fond a cool sounding bird name, The Phoenix was a Mytholgical firebird that rose from the ashes. So Used that.......then I just starting sticking stuff in front of it.......and Came up with Star Phoenix.

I'm like Visc. I get names out of history and from Roman commanders, like 'Agrippa' and 'Scipio', and names of old cities or renamed cities. Sometimes I get cool names like 'Cyrnus', but then I turn around and there's 'Klagenfurt'. o_O . DF also has a few mixed names. I read 'Red Storm Rising', then I read 'Crimson Empire', so I named my SSD 'Crimson Storm'. We also throw in a few BattleMech names like the 'Wolfhound' and 'Timberwolf'.

I get my names pretty much from my head, some possibly synonyms of others, and some based on those from books and games. And then there are the few that I really liked and just stole. Heh.

Hey, use these as names for your ships! Except, the last one, I think you should call it "The Boondock Saint", as plurals wouldn't work so well. :p Hard Boiled sounds interesting.. :D

How I name ships and characters is unique...

I pick out japanese words I like and use them or just stuff that pops into my head.....

Althought I also use anime and video games for big name taking...

and I can't use my DVD collection because I don't own any.....
