If I were to research something, say the torpedoes of a sun crusher, would I have to do it on swfans board if it were just that individual part of it?

If its the research you're concerned with then, you have to post something saying that a technology is being researched, and a finish date...but you don't necessarily have to divulge the details of it.

Say I wanted to research a new fighter, called a TIE Valkyrie

I wouldn't say that I'm researching that per se but I would post something saying "Small craft research" and then post the date it will finish.

I would also think that in conjunction with such a thing a topic would also need to be created within an individual group's private research forum with a matching date of topic creation as the one here.
