In case anyone has been following the RP titled Blob Racing (http://www.swforums.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=167611&t=3383#post167611) you will notice that the recent developments in the thread involve SHAPESHIFTING.
This is legal in Star Wars. I would like to tell you how... and what species Arya really is. She is what is known as a Shi'ido, all information on the race is included beneath my comments in this post.
One thing to note: Arya does not know what species she is. Also, I don't want tons of people showing up as shapeshifters now. If you want to be a Shi'ido...IF...please contact me about it. PM me at Lilaena De'Ville, or email at jainhollie@yahoo.com, or AIM at holliebelle2. Thank you for your time.
Shi'ido
- Designation: Sentient
- Planet of origin: Lao-Mon (Sh'shuun)
- Height of average adult: 1.8 meters (~ 5' 7")
Until recently, little was known about the mysterious species known as the Shi'ido. Hailing from the planet Lao-mon, or Sh'shuun in Shi'ido, they are species rarly seen around the galaxy. Senior Anthropologist Hoole, after years of writing and researching other species, has released the most comprehensive - albeit brief - information relating to his own people.
In natural form, Shi'ido are humaniod, with pale skin. They are born with the ability to mimic the form of any species that is approximatly the same mass as themselves. Younger members of the species can manage only to take the form of other humaniods. This physical limitation disappears when an individual reaches the age of around 150 years, allowing older Shi'ido to shift and enlarge their shape to mimic larger and more complex beings. Hoole, for example, notices that he has in his later years taken the shapes of a Whaladon and a Hutt. If a Shi'ido attempts a form that is beyod the normal limits, however, he may be forced to stay in that form until his body can recover, which can be several weeks.
Shi'ido physiology is extremely flexible, yet their thin bones are dense, allowing support even in the most awkward mass configurations. Their physiology includes a seris of tendons that can release and reattach themselves in different formation. They also have a great deal of hidden fleshy mass that can access and use to enlarge their shapes.
Shi'ido transformations are made complete by the use of telepathic suggestions they impose upon their viewers, painting the image of that they want the observers to see. This helps cover over any inaccuracies in the Shi'ido's transformation, but it is extremely difficult to maintain. Older Shi'ido often have greater mastery over this talent.
Shi'ido are long-lived. Some of the oldest members of the species are 500 years old. This longevity has led to their tremendous interest in learning about the universe, though they'd rather not have the universe learn about them, as Hoole revealed:
"One might say we are a private peoplewho are always nosing around in other people's business. That's why we've gained a reputation for spies, thieves, and criminals, although I would state with utmost sincerity that most Shi'ido are merely curious, seeking to study various peoples by livig with them. We generally have no interest in harming or stealing from others.
We maintain a democratic government that prefers to remain autonomous in the galaxy at large. We are so private that when scout ships come to our world, we've been known to take the shape of rocks, trees, and other terrain, or to attack in the shapes of ferocious creatures, to confuse or frighten away visitors.
If my people want to be found, they'll take the first step in contacting the New Republic."
