Lucasfilm Sues Porno Producer

Lucasfilm has sued the producers of a porno spoof of Star Wars, maintaining that consumers could be led to believe that Lucasfilm sponsored or produced it. The Associated Press reported Thursday that the copyright suit was filed in federal court in San Francisco on Oct. 26. It quoted Linda Wildblood, a partner at Media Market Group, the New York producers of Star Ballz, as saying, "Just like Scary Movie is a spoof of horror movies, Star Ballz parodies many different movies and themes. ... No one in their right mind could look at it and say this is Star Wars."

I hope Lucas win's this I can't believe that some porno film would want to use SW at all and as far as the producer's statment goes she is wrong there because from what I have read the movie rips off half the plot of the films.

Yeah, I truly hope that LucasFilm wins that one. I would hate to see such a great film used in such a way. Besides, its not like those movies need to actually have a plot...

I don't think that Lucas has much of a shot with this. Parodies are protected by the first amendment. Just because the parody is a porn doesn't necessarily mean that a court is going to uphold the suit. This reminds me of Larry Flint's Supreme Court case. Even though Absolut wasn't the one suing Flint, the court still found that Flint was within his rights. Even if they do follow the plot, the makers could say that the plot is so basic and time tested that Lucas can't claim to have originated it.

This is just something to laugh about and ignore. Let's see, how many SW related porn titles can we generate;

I think were were some Star Wars porn movies made back in the 70s or 80s. I think Lucasfilm is suing to protect the image of Star Wars, not beause they think people will think it's a real SW movie.
