Would you like to have icons available next to your user names within posts?

I think it is possible for me to add them, but there is one problem, which requires a great deal of trust in our members.

They would be similar to ezboard in the fact that they would need to be linked to your own webspace, but that isn’t the problem I was talking about just a second ago. The problem is, there would be no way for me to place a limit on their filesize.

As per SWFans.net policy, stated in our FAQ for well over a year’s time now. Posters are limited to 30 KB in the total summation of all the images associated with their profile.

Do you think it would be a good idea to have them, or do you think it would be a bad idea?

I think people who don't read uber-fast would apreciate it, but personally, I don't really care.

I say we only have them is they are chosen by the forum. As in, there are 9-10 icons, we can use one if we want. Stops oversized icons

I agree with Reaper's Idea, although I would like to have my exploding gif back...

Doing something like you are suggesting would require the disabling of Avatars as you know them, because there is a way to make them into a predefined set, while the method I know to add icons would not do that. It would only allow remote file linking.

:: shrugs ::

I personally think they're unnecessary - SWFans.Net disabled them on the old board in December last year and no one made a comment about it.

If they are allowed there should be an option to disable them - I've got sigs and avatars disabled as well as the Basic theme set to enable faster loading for my browser.

Well... there's one character which I'd like to have an icon, as it is actually relevant to him. But I can deal without, I guess. Maybe I can just use it as a very, very small avatar. :)

Ack.. @_@ I'm in the wrong name.

Either way, I don't think there's really a use for icons. Some can be sort of nifty, but then get very annoying after a while.. and some people do tend to make them too large.

So, no need.

*spends half an hour deciding whether or not to change*

Icons arent needed imo. PPics are all we need.:)

But Del, lets be picky, why'd we need Avatars or sigs? :)

I'm fine without having icons here as well. I like having personal pics and sigs. :)

I explained what is happening with your style display in the asked (http://www.swforums.net/forum/announcement.php?s=&forumid=2>announcement</a>) why his wasn't displaying the right one for him. Read, read read. :p

Ah, I see. Actually, I read those posts before, but I didn't understand what they were referring to (as I hadn't noticed the field under my username until now).

You may also notice that there is a "Style set" field within your posts. Most everyone shows as "Default" right now, but there are a few that have already discovered the style sets and that field within their posts reads something different.

Using the icons strip along the bottom to change styles will not cause your post display of the style set you are using, to change. For that display to change to what you are using, you will have to make the change in your user control panel to the one you prefer.

I mentioned the Field right there, but understand how it could be somewhat confusing since the field isn't in the announcement post. I actually tried to add it to the announcement as well, but it didn't function at all in that template.
