Source for latex?

Does anyone have any good advice or pointers on using latex? I want to use some latex to "mutilate" my arm a bit, but this is totally new to me. I picked up a book, I was wondering if anyone could advise me on brands of latex or anything of that nature - what's good to use? What looks most like natural skin? If I wanted to make a lump on my arm that looked like it was a real lump of flesh, are any brands better than other brands? Any advice on doing this?

Sorry for generic questions - I was just curious to see any advice that might get offered before I got started!
