What is the going "acceptable" image size(meaning kb) for signatures?

In other words... what is excessive?

see the General FAQ:

Q: Is there a limit to how big or how many images I'm allowed?
A: Yes there is. In order to help keep the loading time of the board adequate for most users the administration have placed a restriction on images.

You may NOT use images in posts where the total filesize of the images together EXCEEDS 30k. Remember this includes ALL images in your post, not each image individually.

For example, if you have a personal picture that has a filesize of 15k and a signature that has a total filesize of 20k, the total comes out to 35k. Since the maximum limit is 30k, you're going to have to scale back your images until they are below the maximum limit of 30k.

If you are intending to make use of images please be aware of these image limitations and be sure to check your image filesizes beforehand.

As for the size on the screen, my personal beef is with images that require me to scroll left or right on my 800x600 monitor. :)
