Hi again from Australia,

Would some kind owners of Don Post's Deluxe Darth Vader helmets be kind enough to send me (or post on the board) some reference pic's of thier helmets.

I've recently bought one (which will hopefully arrive this week) and I'm keen to have mine repainted to the correct colour scheme and any suggetions that any other owners have done to make this helmet more authentic are welcome.

Thanks in advance guys and girls,
Alan.

Here is my e-mail address ALEXANDRA.E@BIGPOND.COM

Hi Alan,

I received my new DLX and am in the process of upgrading it. I used a junior hacksaw to remove the fibreglass tusks and I managed to crack the tubes that join onto them. :(

I managed to fill the crack and reshape with car body filler though and I'm really happy with the results. I'm going to thin out the fiberglass around the chin vent (from the inside) so that the mesh is close to the surface once it's installed. I removed the foam lining, eye lenses and mesh. These won't be re-installed until I've had it repainted by the guy that painted Quinlon Vos's helmet.

I'll post photos when I've made a bit more progress.

Kind regards,

Chris.

CKing, is that previous thread still alive and kicking?

And, welcome to the Board, Alexandra is it?

Hi again Chris, nice to meet you PHArchivist, and also thanks to Vader12 for the e-mail too.

I recently purchased a Don Post Deluxe #334 (with certificate) and in fact just today went to collect my new baby to find out customs need further info from me regards the sale/price etc. So I've returned home empty handed. I'll collect the helmet on Friday now (I'm very anxious I can tell you).

Yes my e-mail address is confusing, Alexandra is my partner and whose name the e-mail account is under, sorry for the confusion.

Chris, got any progress pics you could send or post for the Vader fans?
I can't wait to start my project, I promise I'll post some pics once in my hot little hands.

I looked for the previous Vader thread last night but seems to be gone? Needed some good photo's for reference.

I'll speak to you all again soon,
best wishes,
Alan (Australia)

Alan, welcome to the board from a fellow Aussie! I'm in Melbourne. I have a few Vader helmets that I have repainted myself. There are pics of them at my photopoint account (see the link in my sig). I'm more than happy to answer any questions you might have regarding doing this yourself (as the paints that are available here are different from overseas), or even some tips on having someone do it for you.

Cheers
Jase

Hi Alan,

Here is my Vader helmet after painting and all metal details added.
I still need to get the area around the eyes repainted gloss black though.

fatherlessone, I am very interested in seeing pics of your helmet.
You mentioned it is number 334. I am curious to see if it has neck flare and if so to what degree.

that seems to be a pretty low number, where did you get it from?

Thanks everyone, great to be here with you all.

Thanks patsmear, nice to meet you.

Jase, great photo album, do you own one of the few CKing helmets? Please get in touch with me.

Hi XWING15, Wow there are obviously quite a few serious Vader fans from down under, good to hear!

Quinlon Vos, thanks for your info in a previous thread regards painting Vaders helmet, unfortunately it would cost me an arm and a leg to have my helmet shipped to the UK for a paint job, so if you can find out the actual paint/paint mix from your painter do please let me know, I'm a perfectionist like you.
As said by another member before, I too never get sick of admireing your helmet, so well done, I'm in awe!!

Also a big hello to Icemanfredtm, glad to have met you all.

I'll certainly post photographs of my efforts when I pick my Vader this Friday.

Where did I find my Vader? Ebay, I've waited for years to have a DP Deluxe, so I've spent my money and made a childhood dream come true (I'm 33 now, big kid really)

Speak soon all,
Alan (Australia)

Hey Alan. Yeah, I'm a big kid as well  . I am also interested in seeing if it has neck flare. I think I know the helmet you won. I am sure they had a promo pic of the helmet on the auction, and not the actual helm. Anyway, congrats on your win.

Alan,
I understand about not wanting to ship the helmet all the way to the UK just for a paintjob.
I would get JaseTheHack to paint it if I was you ;)

Great pic Jase. That looks superb.

I've got the URL saved, Jase... :)

It'll come back soon enough.
In the wake of the tragedy, I felt the 'compulsion' to place a sig with words that helped to comfort me through this mess.

Life should start to return to normal soon enough to go back to the original sig... ;)

Hi Jase & board,

Do you (or could you please) have some photo's of your helmet taken in broad daylight?, I'd like to see how the grey sections look on your helmet.

Are they matt or gloss? What mouth screens are you using? CKing's?

Perhaps you could make some close-up detailed shots for us/me (e-mail)

Speak soon mate
Alan

Can you post some more of the full costume. I am drooling down on my keyboard here :)

Alan, I havent taken any shots of my cking deluxe in daylight, but I have got a few pics of my CA taken outside. It should look the same as I used exactly the same paint scheme (Mitsubishi Metallic grey/Ford ebony black). Here's a montage of various locations/results:

<img src=http://users.bigpond.net.au/odonnell/st/temp/manyvaders.jpg>

In amibent light, the grey is very subtle. Maybe too subtle. As soon as you get some light on it however it's sometimes too light.

On the cking I used the supplied metal grill. Other times I have used black plastic "gutterguard" from a hardware store. I think you have to just go with what you like on the grill.

Hi Jase,

Thanks for the pic's, interesting, I collect my Deluxe helmet Friday (tomorrow), can't wait!

Regarding the grill colouring, I know that the lower mesh according to the shots from MOM photo's is metal in colour, but what colour is the top half of the grill? Same or painted plack? I know that both halves of the mouth screen have a finer inner mesh though (I have both screens).

Small details, but important details.

Speak soon,
Alan.

Hi all,

Just to let you know I finally collected my Vader Deluxe #334 today, bloody fantastic!

I'll get some shot's of it on the board over the next day or two (have to loan a friends digital camera). How do I post a photograph here?

The metal mouth screens are actually painted gloss black!

Speak soon,

Alan.
