Movie Smoke Bombs

Maybe someone can help me with this?

I got the idea from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, so it is technically prop related, I think? Does anyone know how to make or where to find the smoke balls that they had in the movie?

These are the type that you throw on the ground and smoke fills the air. I was thinking that Dry ice in a sphere would do it, but I was unsure of its effect.

Any help would be cool.

I think the effect was done with stage pyrotechnics (smoke bomb or some such). I know the egg shaped thinga-me-jigg your talking about, but I don't know the chemical constituents that make it smoke. Dry ice wouldn't work, it would evaporate. The fake Dry Ice might work, but again I don't know how it is "set off".

The only way to do this is with a flash pot, and pyrotech stuff.
(at least to get the effect of ALOT of smoke comming out)


but, This is an idea that a Magician friend of mine did, and I can't
tell you for sure if it works, as I've never done it myself, but he said it
does infact work.

what you need is a med size steel or metal ball that will spark when
thrown at the ground.

YOu'll need to get flash powder, that's used in a flash pot. It makes a
flare, and then smokes. ( you can probably find this at a local magic
shop, or they can point you in the right direction)

and then you need a large sheet of flash paper. Most Magic shops have
this, or can get it..

what you do, it lay out the paper, and pour the power on it. Stick the
metal ball on it, and wrap the paper/powder around it.

seal it with something. Even a rubber band would work if tight enough.


Then you are set. Whip the F-er hard at the ground and watch out so
you don't set yourself a flame. :lol:
