View Full Version : Jin-Roh Anime/ Panzer Cops info, anybody???

Biker Scott

I've recently discovered this Japanese anime series(?) called Jin-Roh, or Kerberos: Panzer Cops, or Wolf Brigade. The whole phenomenom has me intrigued. Apparently there was also a Japanese live action movie of Jin-Roh as well, but some time back in the mid 1980's.
I love the outfits the Panzer cops wear, sort of a cross between a WWII German stormtrooper and anime armor. I've scoured all the search engines and ebay too, picked up a couple of figures, but haven't seen the flick yet. What I'd like to know is "has anybody out there seen it?" and "do you have any info that I might not have seen yet?"
Thanks,
Scott

SSB,
No, I haven't checked out those two sources you mentioned, can you elaborate?

As for the figures, I'll try to post some pic's, gotta rely on some friends to help me with that! I picked up 2 figures, one is a 6 " action figure that comes with an awesome array of weapons, including the mauser and an MG 34, the other figure I picked up is a custom movie version from Japan, only armed with an MG-42. I really am considering taking this on as a "full-size suit" project, but I want to amass all the research I possibly can.

I have been a fan of this series for a long time now. I got the original vinyl model of the figure, and loved it till today. The Mauser and the MG34 is full metal.

He is behind my X-wing helmet

I also has the Anime DVD and the full limited edition Comic book (in Japanese). Ans also Medicom is coming out with the 1/6 scale full action figure in Nov. Great stuff.

They are fully based on the German army model, and uses MG34 and MG42, plus mauser extensively as their weapons of choice.

I knew that sounded familiar. I've seen that armor before (Damn, that does look kick-ass). Kaiyodo makes a Jinroh soldier:

Kaiyodo's site has a lot of nice pics of it. It looks wonderfully detailed, and good price, too.

OK!

Anime Nation: THE online anime store, as far as I'm concerned. AN & HobbyLink Japan, anyway ( www.hlj.com ). They're from near my hometown, too. Started out as a coupla guys doing mail order, and it grew + grew. Now they have a wharehouse + mini-store. Most of their business is done online, though. I higly recommend.

Anime Web Turnpike (or Anipike for short): THE listing of websites w/ anime-content. Damn big. Links categorized by theme, content, and alphabetized by series name. www.anipike.com/ (http://www.anipike.com/)

Allow me to reiterate how cool that armor looks. Interesting premise also; from what I've been able to gather.

I posted pics of the armor several months ago, I'm planning to use it as a base for my Vader " The bad-ass years" costume... I bought an early edition of the movie, all in Jap. with no subtitles, now I'm looking foward to buying the dubbed one... It's an awsome movie... :) Wish to hell I could afford the figures, especialy the 12" one... ;)

WOW!
Thanks everyone! Especially SithSherrifBrody, your information will certainly help me out a lot. I did spot the Jin-Roh Maniaxx book that is unfortunately out of print, it's too bad, that appears to be THE book I should pick up for tackling this project.
I think I prefer the anime version of the armour, some of those 1/6th scale figures are from the live action film. Though I think both styles of armor are cool, the animated version is what first struck me. The 1/6th scale figure I purchased from www.artoftoy.com was VERY pricey. It's totally incredible, but I'm a little embarrassed to say ho much I overpayed for the damn thing.LOL.

Actually, no. But I did see this same suit too. I figured it to be a SpaceMarine from Warhammer 40 K (check the thread I started regarding this armor, there is a similiar photo there)
but I also thought it was a Dark Trooper? from the expanded Star Wars universe? Thats what I was thinking since he was weilding a saber. The suit I speak of looked exactly like the suits that are linked above...and it looked like the toys/models shown also.
But thank you for playing, we have some lovely parting gifts for you. :)

Hey Nick!
There's no doubt about it, that's a Stray Dog costume. Though he certainly made an effort on it, you know the way I am, I won't be happy until I look like a 6 foot tall action figure. There's a lot of things I would do differently on the costume.

Kurgan!!! Thats the one! Good work!

**addition**
That German style helmet is for sale all the time in The Sportmans Guide. If you have access to a vac-former, the other parts should be easy enough? Maybe even altered trooper armor?

Also, after looking at a link to some photos of the above mentioned suit, I saw the words "Cos-Play". What the heck is Cos-Play? Something to do with Bill Cosby?

Cosplay (Jp phrase, Eng origin) is short for 'costume play'; i.e. dressing up like a fictional character. Popular in Japan.

Biker Scott, oddly, I believe the first and only time I saw a Panzer Cop fig was in San Fran -- where the Art of Toy guys have a store (I remember it's way out on Clement street, but I don't remember the name of the store). They have an INCREDIBLE cool collection of stuff, but you are right, their prices are a bit steep. I found some awesome little resin robots that they were selling for $70 for $35 at CollectionConnection in San Francisco.

Who wants do do a Jin-Roh costume! That sounds like a blast -- and fairly simple as far as armor goes. I'd be interested in a project.

RON -- I'd like to hear more about your 1:1 helmet as well. Also, if anyone has info on the new release 1/6 figs, please share the link.

If anyone wants to order a couple of the smaller guys, I'd be willing to go in with you and save shipping from HLJ....

Guys,
It's just an offer.......I don't have the helmet, and it's not "my" decision, but I am placing my skills out there for availability. I would be supportive of Ron.....no matter what his decision is. I can understand him not wanting to cast the helmet, or not wanting to part with it from his collection. But should he be interested in running a couple of dupes off of it, I'd be willing to be the labor---though I suspect he has the ability to do it himself.
If I were to do this, I would probably pour the faceplate in an impact resistant resin, and vacuform the German helmet........which I actually have molds for already!

I'm sure everyone will be cool with Ron's decision. Hopefully the interest on the board will help him with that decision, however.

I can't speak for the group, but should this project come to fruition, it might be nice to have the option of just buying a rough cast of the mask, and customizing it with a "real" german-style metal helmet.

Let me know, please, if I can help in any way!

Hey don't mind me,
I just don't want anybody to be scared off! You can rest assured, this project WILL happen, whether I sculpt the mask from scratch or not. I AM A VETERAN OF THESE TYPES OF PROJECTS, and just so some of you guys know I'm not blowing smoke, I DO do this type of work for a living. I will let everyone know one thing though, it would be a limited run, and there would be a sign up list, and a deposit required. Last thing I want to do is marry myself to a project (I have that already....a wife and a house!).
I see by the interest in this thread that the amount of requests are manageable for me. This project is in the VERY EARLY stages, I haven't even amassed all of my research yet! So if "I" take the ball and run with it on this project for everyone I just want you all to know at this point I am considering it "market research". Either way, if another party wants to get involved or interest fades, I WILL be making the full suit for myself one way or the other.

Bikerscott,

If you end up doing the armor yourself, what version will you do? It looks like the version that was posted is the live action version, correct?

At this point, I'm still interested in a helmet (any helmet) but mostly if I can do it as a kit, with just buying an unfinished faceplate. I could definitely be in to buying the rest of the armor as well, but then we get into the "we'll see" area of waiting to see what this will cost.

Thanks!

Biker Scott

Raj,
You are correct in your assumption that the mask photo's are from the live action film version. If that version were to become available in one form or another, then that is what I would do, followed by the body armor. Reason being is that it would save me some sculpting time.
Should the mask remain unavailable, then I will definately be doing the anime version----which is the version that I like better. The live action version, though likeable, reminds me a little too much of a Star Wars Stormtrooper. The anime version is unique, an amalgam of anime design, with WWI or WWII German gas mask overtones, neatly wrapped up in a wicked sci-fi look!
I also prefer the anime body armor and backpack. Though I will NOT be offering the body armor for sale, in fact, even TALKING about the mask, ESPECIALLY before it's DONE is very much against the way I do business. I really never speak publicly about my projects until they are complete. This circumstance is a little different because I co-rely on you guys for information I did not have. For that I am very thankful. When I do the mask, the helmet will be vacuum formed, or you don't even need the helmet should you decide to use any other type of German helmet, real or not. The faceplate will most likely be a poured, impact resistant resin (untrimmed), and I may include some clear red plastic for lenses. I will offer NO GUARANTEES of the faceplate lining up with any German helmets provided by the customer, but it will line up with the helmet "I" will offer.
If anybody has any questions, I'll watch this thread for a while and answer them After that, I'll start remaining silent. That means I'm working very hard to make this happen. Whatever version I start, I'll let everyone know. I'd also encourage anyone else out there to take a shot at the mask/helmet!!!
