I posted a few days ago to see what interest there was in a reworked Vader ANH helmet.

Basically it is a fibreglass cast from the original mould that has been reworked to correct the lopsided mouth and cheek bones so Darth no longer looks like a stroke victim :)

I now have some pics that I haven't a clue how to post, so if you are interested shoot me an email and I'll forward them to you.

Any specific questions about materials etc include and I will pass them on to my friend in England who made the mask. There are a LIMITED number of these babies so only serious enquiries please.

Thanks
Barry

Hi Barry,

Now that we have established that the helmet and friend you are talking about are the same helmet / people that have contacted me a few weeks ago, I wanted to ask if the photos you have are taken outside and a bit further away from the helmet? I advised your friend's husband that they would probably get some more interest if they took some more flattering photos. I was waiting for them to send some new photos to me before I posted here but you've beaten me to it! :)

Here's how to post photos:

If you have them stored in a photopoint album, click on the photo that you want until only the photo appears on screen - you don't want all the advertising blurb.

Copy the contents of the address bar.

When typing your post here, type the following:

paste_contents_of_your_address_bar

Make sure that you check Ezcodes in the Posting options area below the message box.

Kind regards,

Chris.

Hey Chris, thanks for the tip on the photos but I don't have a photopoint account. I'll just email the pics to interested people for now.

Thanks :)

dunno...the width of the faceplate to helmet looks kinda weird...anyone else see this?

what is the concensus? The way the helmet sits looks right though...that does look ANHopish.

thoughts anyone?

aljf,

yeah I know what you mean. The face looks too big, but I think its that the helmet isnt flaired/angled out far enough.

The helmet also comes to a peak in front...is that right?

We need some ANH pix to compare.

If the face is correct in size, than I suspect that the helmet got pulled in to far when molded up or reproduced. If you cover the helmet sides with your hands (on the screen) and imagine a wider helmet, it looks right.

Where is Cking..hes pretty good at this stuff.

Oooohhh Chri--isss....where art thou?

Hi people,

I have never personally seen an ANH helmet so my comments are only based on reference photos and what I see on screen. That being said, the top dome section definitely looks too squashed at the sides. Maybe the angle of the photos don't help but it doesn't look good.

I think that the face plate is the right size but the chin vent is definitely too big for the ANH helmet.

I saw a couple of other photos showing a row of just the face plates on a shelf and they looked really good on their own. I definitely feel that the top dome section would need a lot of work to improve it.

Kind regards,

Chris.

ck,
do you mean the neck flair or chin being too big.

I agree with all points..the dome is also too small....

as far as I can tell, the ANH, ESB, and ROTJ were the same basic exterior mold, except for the mounting of the helmet proper, and the chin vent. Sure, some minor details might have been added, but it appears to have been the same helmet mold.

Hi Helm,

I'm talking about the trianglular chin vent opening. It was really small on the ANH helmet compared to the ESB & ROTJ version. This helmet seems to have a chin vent opening comparable to the ESB & ROTJ helmets.

From what I uderstand the Vader mask in ESB was a COMPLETELY new sculpt and appears to be smaller. The ANH one was designed and sculpted before DP was cast in the role and was far too bog for him to wear causing many problems, these were somewhat addressed in the susequent films.

Saber,

Yes I think you are right about that story, but I think it applies to all the helmets...I am 6'7.5 and its still huge on me...just a huge helmet. Therefore, I think the helmet we are seeing in these pix is a current helmet, probably CA or Deluxe which has been reworked.

Another detail I notice is that the neck is REALLY flaired out...too far in fact for it to be an ESB/ROTJ but the fact that it has that wide chin vent is a conflict in helmet origin.

I did something similar to my helmet, I really reworked the neck and achieved a great deal of symmetry by stretching the CA vinyl and pushing it out and in. I suspect somebody did the same to this helmet, but neglected to pull the faceplate in or widen the helmet angle out.

We have all seen pix of another ANH project and it did appear genuine. I dont know however, what happened to that thread...all vader projects just seem to die. darn.

The helmet definitely looks squashed, for want of a better word. Kinda looks a bit like an original 1977 DP helmet.

That is a very early version of Altmann's Vader helmet. I would recognize the nose bridge and lenses anywhere! Here's a picture of the one I had (the last model before it was licensed):

I agree ... something doesn't look quite right. I know this isn't the same helmet, but I have one of the ANH helmets offered by a board member almost two years ago. I've heard that the cap was re-done somewhat, but I still think it looks great. Here are the pics of it in kit form:

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=467384&a=4731438&p=20297426&Sequence=0&res=high

AND

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=467384&a=4731438&p=20297425&Sequence=0&res=high

Please keep in mind that the cap isn't sitting rigfht. This was in kit form, and had no way to attach the two ... so I just positioned them in roughly the right area. :)

Good luck,

ATM

PS This is NOT for sale, I was only posting it for a comparison against the ones above. From what I nuderstand, at least the faceplate is from the original (not re-touched that is). And it IS a large freaking helmet! ;)
