I started this project in December when a friend at work told me that
the Solo blasters were made out of a gun that actually exsisted and
that you can by replicas of the gun. He wanted to make one but needed
me to machine parts for him (If you do not already know I am a Toolmaker).
In exchange for the pieces he would buy a gun replica for me, so we made
the deal.
I love researching information for replicas and spent the next 3 months and
longer gathering it. I found this place early on, thank God! Many people here
have provided invaluable info and also tolerated me throwing out ideas that
either questioned someone specifically or what was commonly accepted. A
lot of great brainstorming and justification of reality came out of it too, and
that benefited everyone. Thanks to everyone here for the education I received.
As I had mentioned previously the version I have made is what I remember from
ANH before disecting it. I have the cantina scope mount on there because that
is the one you get an intimate close-up of, and I have the Hero muzzle on because
that is the only one that gets screen time. I do not have a bull barrel because
in the close-up of Han drawing the gun in the cantina you only see skinny barrel.
I know this gun therefore never exsisted, but again it comes down to taste. It
is the gun I have remembered since 1977.
This gun is "tentatively" done as it has occupied so much of my time. I am now
making a Qui Gon Jinn costume for halloween and a custome sabre that has been
on the back burner since starting the blaster. I am also refinishing a Denix for the
next blaster I am going to make, ROTJ, and I have a third Denix too. Sometime in
the future I plan to go back and do the tweaking the gun needs; close up the oval
in the scope mount a little, make a new muzzle with proper ball nosed grooves instead
of square cut, etc.
All that being said here are pics:

Here is a pic of 4 prototype scope mounts (Upper bracket) and some research info and
designs. The muzzle without the holes was my original prototype which I cut about 4 times
trying to find the right scale (started out too big and kept scaling down).
