It's an interesting movie, to say the least.
That is, if it's the one where the boy kills his mom with a ceramic...

Kubrick is a pretty good director in my book.
The good (Dr. Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket, Clockwork Orange)
outweighs the bad (Eyes Wide Shut)

A.I was....depressing. :( I cried. What can I say, I'm a girl, girl's cry in movies. My nephews (14 and 16) got 'misty eyed'...I bet they were crying too.
It was a good movie, and its directed by STEVEN SPIELBURG, dimwits! But it was a Stanley Kubrick..something or other. Production? He, himself, is dead.
And all I have to say about Kubrick is....Eyes Wide Shut? That movie totally sucked! Maybe I should see some of his earlier works, but...man, what a horrible movie!
A.I. was good, I really liked it.

Strangelove is one of my favorite movies....so funny, topical, and ahead of its time :)

Wasn't Eye Wide Shut like a semi-porn?
Darth Viscera
Jun 30th, 2001, 06:38:10 PM
A.I. was....abstract. Too abstract. Maybe it's just that I missed the first 5-10 minutes of it, but my brain is still all rolled up into a cinnamon roll, trying to analyze every last scene. Info overload. I got the overall plot, I'm just still trying to figure out some of the details, like why the hell was an abandoned city filled with a research team, what is the temperature at which silicon becomes a liquid, and what year that movie took place in. I didn't really cry during the movie, although I started blinking a lot, but I don't think I detected any moisture in my eyes <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> ....well, maybe a bit.
Eyes Wide Shut was like a coffee house intellectual movie. It was....mas o menos.
Strangelove is great...perhaps in that it's so damned utterly cliche, which is rather funny.
And no, Eyes Wide Shut wasn't a semi-porn. The nude scenes are few and far between. Semi-porn is like what's on Cinemax at 1am, with the TV-MA DLVS (or whatever it is) rating.

Full Metal Jacket was good, I enjoyed what I saw of that movie...I saw the basic training bit, but not the rest of the war bit. But I liked it. ;)
I also liked the movie that was based on Heart of Darkness but I have blanked on the name of the movie...it has Martin Sheen in it as the main character....ARGH! Well, I liked that one too...Vietnam war movie (even though the war is not the basis of the movie, simply the backdrop).
Anyway, I liked A.I., and Visc, I was wondering what the scientists were doing in the abandoned city as well, but maybe it wasn't really as abandoned as it seemed. Just that it was restricted to mecca, not orga, right? I don't know...

Apocalypse Now. creepy movie.
Still, you expect to see certain things in a living city. Like amphibicopters, other sorts of transportation, people standing on the tops of buildings, pointing at things, etc. Like in the silicon-based lifeform scene.

Just saw AI. I thought it was really, really good. I got a bit choked up during the end, but that's it.
Regarding the scientists: I think they were there to be secluded from everyone else, allowing them a bit more freedom in their work. Also, it's where the main coroporate building was, so they probably didnt want to abandon the equipment there. However, what I want to know is why it was restricted to Mecca?

Leia, good...I don't want to beat you up TOO badly. ;)
Visc, perhaps they were secluded so that people who opposed their work (flesh fairs, etc) wouldn't be able to find and or hinder them. So, I guess I agree with Nup. Why was it restricted to mecca? Perhaps they didn't want mecca finding them...Or....
*thinks*
(thinks more)
Maybe there had been terrorist threats against them, and they were afraid that any meccas that came to Manhattan would actually be walking BOMBS!
Okay, I didn't think hard enough, I know... (that was meant to be stupid, by the way)

Boy, AI wasn't as good as you peoples made it out to be.It was pretty good, but Spielburg made a mistake using a nararator. When I hear a nararator, unless it's a person teling about their story (Green Mile, Private Ryan, etc), I want it to be a person, well, without a soul to their voice. Someone indifferent on the topic. Nuetral. But when you get Robin Williams to narrarate, you think back to all those other movies he was in way back. This was a serious movie, and I didn't want to mentally see the Genie or Peter Pan.

When I think of Robin Williams, I tend to think of "What Dreams May Come". Not a humerous role in the least. I also got choked up the first time I saw that movie.

Hmm... Well, I went to see A.I over the weekend.
I was in the theatre at the part when David is seeing his mother for the "last time", and she has just woken up and they are both crying and he says: "I love you Mommy!"
Then a storm hit and the power went out in the theatre and I never saw the conclusion of the movie.

Jul 11th, 2001, 03:13:12 AM
*points and laughs at Hyfe* Oh, man, that sucks.
Zaarin, or Lucious (who names their son/daughter lucious!?), or whoever, I thought Robin Williams only did the voice over on the one part, at Dr. Know, or Dr. Who, or whoever the Doctor was who knew everything.
I liked it. so...MNEH! :p
