I'm pretty much away from the internet until friday. The DSL modem died, I'm getting a new one on Wednesday which is when I go for orientation. I might be able to borrow this laptop and go online during my normal after work times...

See ya, holmes. I hope you get your DSL back soon, I would hate it if I had to go back to dailup. So, good luck to you.

Bah... all I have is dialup... I built a killer gaming machine, and it still runs on a 56k (and a flex if I feel like installing it, but it's SCSI and I don't want to bother enabling my SCSI slot, besides, that means I have to use two phone lines and two connections.)

HAHAHA!

Another low-pinger, cast down by misfortune to dwell amongst the sodomites of 56k!

Oh...wait...that includes me. Damn.

The modem life only truly blows if you want to do two things

1) yoink files : mp3s, movies

2) game

Works well for the boards and regular browsing, but if you expect that your paltry 112k is going to do squat for your game online, forget it. Gaming is all about latency, and a modem seems to automatically generate 100ms. Then just tack on the rest of your route, and that low pinger with an m4, artic or an ak just turned you face inside out.

You might find mp3 yanking more pleasing, but you still can forget high quality movies and music vids.

The very thought of degressing to a dial-up connection makes my stomach churn...

Unfortunately, in a week or so when I move, it will be a sad reality....

:: weeps at the impending loss of his cable connection ::

heh, extra.

lets see. 3 extra phone lines plus a dialup account... or a DSL setup for 50 a month that is faster.

thats a toughie...

If you count all of our houses then we have 5 lines, and if you count my father's business, which he owns, we have another 3 bringing us to 8 phone lines :o)
