Are you aloud to merge shipyards to produce ships? Or only use them individually? Thank you for your time.

How does one obtain more shipyards? The Yuuzhan Vong are a military faction and we'd appreciate the ability to build at least one more shipyard. Plus the Yuuzhan Vong have been around since November, though inactive at a point, if that counts for something.

a) I dont think you can combine yards, especially on the one project to speed it up. If I remember, we decided a year ago that that wasn't allowed, or was it the project would take the same time, regardless of how many yards you threw at it?

I do remember special projects used to consume all the legal yards a faction owned.

b) Extra yards - used to be three yards per planet, till the faction limit was introduced. The Vong have two, correct?

I personally think the limit is a bit unrealistic and unfair - and ridiculous. I mean, its like the Emperor ordering the construction of another shipyard, and someone saying "Sorry Palpy, we're not allowed to - SWFans rules unfortunately!"

i do actrally agree we should be allowed more Shipyards, mabey like one more military....3 military and one customer would do me fine...us small factions such as the Vong and The Via have no chance of succsessfully build defeces such as ships when the GMA and TSE can build them twice as fast and always have twice as many forces as ust at any one time...thats my view anyway...

Don't forget, these are 40 kilometer shipyards we're talking about. No ship or base comes close to that length. Normal shipyards are probably no bigger than a VSD, one order would keep them busy for a few weeks.

Garrette I think the reason that there is a faction limit is that people produce more shipyards than they can realistically support. If Palpatine had a limit as to how far he could stretch himself, and he told someone "build me a shipyard" they might reply with "well, with what money?"

I think the rule makes sense and keeps people from making unrealistic amounts of ships in unrealistic amounts of time. I know this is fiction, but it's really ridiculous how abused that fact would be if not for the faction cap on yards that we have.

I still agree with Marr here...the Via have (Currently) 4 going on 5 planets...that is where the Via wish to stop planet grabbing for a while and re-build our forces....i would say 5 even 4 plnaets was rearlistic to have 4 ship yards im affraid folks...and plus to the fact both Ambria and Domarinra have HEAVY mineing facilities and the citixens there export that thoughout the outter rim so the money side of it is not a problem

The Vong aren't a small faction. We're bigger then you think Reysa :)

Yes the Yuuzhan Vong have two shipyards. I was hoping we could spring for another one or two. We are a Galaxy-wide race and I think we deserve a bit more then just two shipyards.

I would have to agree that the Vong do perhaps deserve one more shipyard (non-customer) because they technically need not use money to build them - but the limit should be set there until they possess at least another 10 or 15 planets, just to make it fair for other groups.

Jedah I didn't think we disagreed that often. :p


edit: Oh yeah, just realized that it doesn't matter what I think the limit should be, because it's the admins who decide that. :lol:

I'm just pointing out that most groups that have 3 or more shipyards also have a good number of planets. The Empire has 27 planets securely held and four ship yards. TSE has 26 planets securely held and 4 shipyards.

Groups with large amounts of planets dedicated to the gathering of resources should have an amount of yards that corresponds to the amount of resources being gathered. The main reason this should be done is to provide incentive to conquer others, otherwise you could own one planet the entire time and run two shipyards, according to the current rules.

The Guild owns sixteen planets; fourteen are devoted to providing supplies (food, ore), one is the homeworld, and the other is a training planet. We have two shipyards and one construction yard. I don’t remember a day our shipyards weren’t full, either with customer orders or military orders. I know we purchase craft from other empires, but at our current production rate any empire with half a mind will be able to take all of our planets. You may call this over expansion, but in order to run our yards we had to expand, luckily, the Guild has invested a large amount of time and money into defensive weapons and new ship designs, so we’re safe for the time being, but only because of our tacticians and engineers, not because of any large military power… I don’t know what I’m getting at by pointing this out, but I believe groups, after acquiring a specific amount of planets devoted to the extraction of natural resources, should be given a third, and final, yard.

I also want to add that Yuuzhan Vong shaping grounds (shipyards) do not require much resources to be built, since they are grown.

It is already impossible for us to win this war with 100 ships while the Empire possesses around 1200. I just want another shipyard, at least until the war is over. totaly agreed...

At this point in time the Via empire can build something like 4 transports in 4 days...and it takes something like 12 days to build 2...YES 2 VSD's to my knowledge that is something we have to expand..and i agree that we should be able to even have a TEMPUARY shipyard even if we cant keep it at the steady rate the war poseses right now we have a "ok" chance of winning, but not a mear morsal of a chance to atleast come out of this war with a quater of what we have now...there for..."Defenceless"

Lynch and Jeseth have it right. Yard limits were placed on factions to stop the utterly absurd amount of yard and ships that were being produced and that is NOT going to change. It also helps brining in a hint of common sense and fairplay

While there is no hard and fast rule to say when you can get another shipyard, I would think there were two provision that must be looked after...

1) Size of faction.
2) Ability to have common sense and fairplay - ie, if your faction uses it's resources well in RP, then you deserve another yard. I personally think the Vong do meet both of those.
3) Time and commitment to SWFans.

Yeah, the Vong meet that too.

Thence I personaly dont have a problem with the Vong building a new shaping ground

How large a faction are the Vong? I have only seen about five or six members of their group that I can really recall.

Hmmm, groups like TSE and GJO are what I would consider large factions, with membership numbers over 35 unique individuals.

Personally, I don't feel nonfleet oriented groups should have more than 2 shipyards. But groups that may only survive by the use of fleet tactics, such as the Guild or Vong, should have an increased amount, according to the above stated... which I shall, for the record, state again:

amount of members/their skill, planets, and age of group.

i dont see how that changes a thing....

in RP you cant have a indervisual person to contraol every ship...you think Viscera has 900 members???its the size you build up to be and who contraol eatch section...we have over 11.000 Via Warriors and over 100.000 Navy-Skoth...and still growing as we speak...thus you dont have to have indervisual players to make you a large faction although it certainly dose help...

Anyway, back to trying to get my organization another yard, could an admin please look over the Guild and figure out if we can get another yard, even if we’re not at war, please?

Unique Members: 8
Age: 1 year (check my Khendon Sevon account)
Planets: 16 (17 soon)
Fleet: 300+ ships (almost all 250m or under)
Alliances: GMA
Relations with: Cizerack (trade agreement)
Researches: 30+

Sometimes I wish I has a can o'worms sock puppet account. I feel the need for it now :)

Well, The NR has 5 yards / GJO 2.... (Customer?)??? cant remember, due to size and also importance if I remember how the original discussion went, plus Thrawn was part of the NR and had built up the resources and planets to quite a degree.

TSE 4 due to size and importance, plus takeover of RSO yards - can someone confirm?
TSO 3??? as above.
GMA 4 due to amount of work put into it

Other factions allowed 2


If I remember the original discussion, the NR was allowed more yards as a) It was supposed to be the main government and b) it was defensive in nature and c) The Jedi who DID have seveal yards decided it was not right for Jedi to be building a war fleet, that was the job of the NR, thence the 5 war yards were basically shared between the groups and the GJO yard would be for customer work for the galaxy. I think. It's sorta fell into disuse after Thrawn left and there are a few people now trying to get it going again.

Oh, one addition - groups who declare they will not have anything to do with fleeting (ie TBH) have no allocation and are not allowed to be fleet attacked.

Edit : All hail the Can O' Worms :) ! I needed the laugh, the office is gone to hell with a move. So far I've had 4 arguments with prima donnas not liking the seating arrangements, so my patience is being tried big time. The next person to dispute gets a "F*ck off and SIT THERE AND NO ARGUMENTS!".

I agree that if the smaller factions grow in their number of actual unique members, planets controlled or overseen, and duration of involvement here at SWFans, that consideration for an additional shipyard will be given.

From my current knowledge of the Via and Guild presence here I cannot with clear conscious grant them the ability to have more shipyards then they currently do. There just doesn’t seem to me, to be enough presence, or unique members participating in diverse actions, other than just conquering worlds, for me to do so.

As for the extra allotment to TSE’s yards I do believe that the RSO merger factor played a part in it, as well as their longevity and overall size and significance as a faction here.

The Imperials were given the same considerations, based on their own longevity (including the Thrawn ruled era) and their importance as a major faction here, which plays some bearing on my decision to grant an additional yard to the Vong.

BTW: My decision(which concurs with FMH's) to grant the Vong the ability to have another shaping ground does not mean that it exists immediately. It will need to be constructed/grown.

We are talking about a group that has been around since shortly after he inception of this being a RP board. One that brought about the downfall of the Jedi as a whole on one occasion, though they are under a different leader now.
