I like it...it stays in spirit with the Pulp Sci-fi style of the originals. Calling it "Star Wars: Clone Wars" is a bit redundant, if you ask me <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

I doubt I'm going to bother seeing that in the theater... sounds about as good as "Mars Attacks!"

Oh yeah, and The Empire Strikes Back was the paragon of movie titles.

It fits, doesnt it? The Empire Strikes Back / The Attack Of the Clones. Just as bad as each other / corny too.

The thing is, we KNOW how good ESB is. Maybe AOTC will be similar.

I utterly hate it. Its bad in that B-Movie way, but not even funny in that Attack of the Flesh Devouring Space Worms From Outer Space (199:cool: way. Its just BAD. Its the first name Ive disliked, it has no mystery. A New Hope could have been about Luke, Ben or the Death Star blowing up. Empire Strikes Back could have been Hoth, Han, or the more psychological strike on Luke. Return of the Jedi could just be Lukes back, or that the Jedi would once again rise to glory. Attack of the Clones doesnt say that for me. It just says this is where the Clone Wars are, and thats it.

Having said that, I want the film to be good. Who cares about its name?

It does sound like the title was made in the 60's or 70's. Who's making this thing? Ed Wood?

No doubt fox will make special use of the title to fit in with their fine upstanding programing.

Tonight on FOX its a special hour of when Animals Attack! Followed by when Babies Attack! Followed by another hour of Animals Attack! Then its the premiere of Attack of the Clones! IN 3-D!!!!! Then Worlds Scariest Police Chases and When Network Execs Attack!

Hmmm...Mars Attacks...Attack of the Killer Tomatos.... *sees all her AIM quips here in posts* PLAGURIZERS! You're lucky I can't spell that! ;)

No no, you know what? When George Lucas gave us Jar Jar, we made excuses for him. What we SHOULD have been doing is having him committed. He's finally lost it.

Thankfully, I'm being hired on by Lucas to doctor the script and title of the next, third and last Film. Timothy Zahn is going to be my consultant. The third one will ROCK!

All that said, it doesn't really matter what the title is. I'm still going to see it, and I'm just going to pretend in my head that the title is different....That Lucas didn't let Jake Lloyd name Ep. 2. I'll imagine that the title is.... Star Wars: Attack of the Stupid Titles...

Okay guys, when you calm down a bit, try thinking about it from this perspective....

How different is that name from any of the other films titles?
'The Empire Strikes Back?' 'Return of the Jedi?' 'The Phantom Menace?' They're all typical names that you would expect to find from old Saturday morning serials, the same ones that Lucas modeled 'Star Wars' after in the first place.

Think about the name 'Star Wars' itself... put aside all of our preconcieved notions about that name and you find the same thing... it screams chessy '50's sci-fi bad 'B' drama.

I'm not defending Lucas by any means... he's quite capable of doing that himself. All I'm saying is that the title 'Attack of the Clones' isn't that different from any of the other film titles. They're all lame titles, it's just that we know that ESB, ROTJ, ANH, etc. are good films, so we don't place so much emphasis on a title...

Force Master Hunter
Aug 9th, 2001, 12:00:20 AM
And that's basically what I try to point out! What's different between Attack of the Clones and any other SW title?!?!

NONE!!! They are all cheesy, they are all not exactly highlights of deep thinking - they are however titles to QUITE GOOD MOVIES!!!

I'm not emailing Lucas becuase Attack if the Clones is 100% a Star Wars name and i quite damn well like it, now I've thought about it. i'm not signing any stupid petition either.

I've seen nothing apart from "IT SUCKS" comments in the negative, no reasons why. YET, I have seen some very good ones like what Figrin posted.

And no one has answered why The Empire Stirkes Back isn't the same as Attack of the Clones. They are both silly, cheesy, really silly titles, BUT THEY FIT.

I look forward to watching the opening scroll with Episode II : Attack of the Clones as the header.

You know, you're absolutely right. *pushes button to call in the people from the funny farm for Figrin D'an and FMH* :) :)

Actually, you DO have a point. But Attack of the Clones just seems blatant about the campiness of the title....its a bitter pill for me to swallow.

Next person to say calm down to me WILL get an e-slap.

I was about the first here to hear about it. And its still an awful name. Empire Strikes Back is thought provoking. This isn't.

Its an awful name. on a scale of 1-10, its a 2 at best

And FMH, what you said was TOTAL BS. Me and Nup have gave total opinions. Most likers just say "Calm DOwn" or "Well, ESB wasnt very good, was it?". Maybe youre the one who should get a decent argument.

Reposted for the 2nd time:

"The Phantom Menace" is at least ambiguous and subtle: It could be interpreted many different ways. "Attack of the Clones" is neither. It's utter crap. It is, in fact, one of the worst titles I've ever heard for a movie.

I keep hearing people try to compare it to ESB. I don't think that ESB was a bad title in the least. If it were, don't you think that someone would have brought it up before? No one ever even thought twice about it before. No one has even thought to critiscize any of the other titles before this.

ReaperFett
Aug 9th, 2001, 02:05:47 PM
TPM wasnt the most popular of titles, but it wasnt THIS badly recieved.

Also, with TPM, there was still the speculation. WHO was the phantom menace?

Maul?
Palpatine?
Sidious?
Anakin?
The Trade Federation?
The Empire on the horizon?
The ways of the Jedi?

what does Attack of the Clones say? That clones attack. WOAH! Get out the detective hat Sherlock, we have a case to work out the meaning of this!

Nupraptor
Aug 9th, 2001, 06:28:59 PM
In short, I don't like the title "Attack of the Clones" For two main reasons:

A) It holds no abiguity to it

B) "Attack of the _______" is a very clichéd format for the name of the movie, having been used for dozens of B-Movies that all bombed.

Nichos Marr
Aug 9th, 2001, 06:42:22 PM
We all know the Phantom Menace was Maul :p . Well, at least *I* think that. Maul was indeed a "menace" working for Darth Sidious. Sidious was known to the Trade Federation Viceroy and higher ups, along with a few battle droid captains. Maul was kept hidden, until instructed to aid the Trade Federation in their fight for Naboo.

Sorry, I know this has nothing to do with the current discussion, but I was bored. :)

ReaperFett
Aug 9th, 2001, 06:48:09 PM
but couldnt it be Sidious, who is hidden? Or maybe the Sith, who were thought dead but arent, like a Phantom

Nupraptor
Aug 9th, 2001, 06:56:49 PM
We all know the Phantom Menace was MaulActually, that was one way I never interpreted it. I thought that the "Phantom Menace" was meant to look like it was Palpatine, manipulating things from the Shadows. And that it was, in actuality, Anakin. He is the wildcard in everything. Hence, why he is the "Phantom (or unknown) Menace".

Ron Thrawn
Aug 9th, 2001, 07:03:50 PM
At first Glimpse, it seams to be Maul, Look at it closer, and its Palpatine (It doesnt take Einstien to know he is Sidiouse.), but it is the Sith in General.
Thought to be dead, but not completly, like a phantom, or ghost, almost dead, thought to be totaly, and are definantly a Menace.

Nichos Marr
Aug 9th, 2001, 07:12:54 PM
It seems that the Phantom Menace could mean the Sith in general, and I'd like to believe that. Although I interpreted the title relating to Maul since he was more of a phantom then Sidious. Sidious didn't work as much in the shadows as Maul did.

But it DOES make more sense if the title was referring to the Sith in general.

Attack of the Clones is a little too blunt for my liking.

Ok lets just lay it all out on the table...Lucas is a good storywriter. Captured the imaginations of millions. Created a whole new world for us. Without him we wouldn’t be here right now. He is good at making up group’s names (the Jedi or the Sith). Ok he needs to work on last names (solo, skywalker, darklighter). But we have all figured out by now that he isn’t so hot at making titles for his movies. But cut him a break he made three great movies and Jar Jar Binks. Now, what do you think the title of the next movie will be? I think it will go along the lines of “Star Wars III: The Sith Emerge”

Lady DeVille
Aug 10th, 2001, 02:13:21 AM
Star Wars Episode Three: The Extermination of all the Jedi Until There Are Only FOUR Left, Including Amidala's Infant Twins, Yoda, and Obi-Wan (He Will Go By Ben in The Next Movie)

You see how they discuss what the Phantom Menace meant. You can't do this with this title. Watch:

"Well do you think Anakin was the clone attacking? "

"I always thought that Obi-Wan was the attacking clone. "

"Thats a good point. Obi-wan=OB-1 and he attacked a lot of things. "

"Im still gonna go with my gut and say that Luke and Leia are the attacking clones!"

See Just doesn't work.

Holocrons possess Gatekeepers (Jedi Masters). Certain Jedi Masters instill their memories into the Holocron. Hence, the holocron is able to answer questions and relay pictures from memory, such as the person could do if they were alive. This certain holocron is inhabited by Jedi Master Ood Bnar.
