Tonight....its 4 thick-cut St. Louis strips, with hickory, cracked black pepper, and a mingling of mongolian fire oil and Jack Daniels....for a little flash-sear flavor.

I prefer cooking Asian food myself, although a do a really nice cheese and spice grilled steak. My Satay is life threatening.

I am learning asian food...but its hella expensive to make. I have a good twice-cooked pork recipe, and use a korean honey garlic glaze with it...its sweet at first, but then the spices come in and pop you in the mouth.

Yum yum :D

Few things I have found out about cooking Asian..

Get yourself a really good Wok. Preferably not an electric one. I prefer one I can use over a gas stove.

Use wooden implients to do the cooking.

Never over cook. Most asian food cant be cooked for too long.

A decent cooking oil, preferable sesame seed based. Most coolking oils DONT work with Asian flavors, especially canola based.

Cook as fast as possible. I find I never have to have anything cooking longer than 7 minutes and even then that's slow.

Dont be scared to experiment. I have gotten some good results just wondering what a touch of garlic or ginger would do.

YES! Especially about wooden utensils and a good wok!

I usually use a fat-free oil substitute, as I prefer healthier options, but yes, the oil is important for authentic flavor.

*Wants to learn how to cook* :\

What is the best way to learn how to cook - no jokes - I mean some serious cooking! I KNOW I'd love it so Sanis, FMH; you two are so lucky! What's the best way to go about learning; Asian food is my favourite kind of food anyway and the way it is presented is wonderous.

How do you do it?

<-- is a decent chef and has never taken a cooking class except for one year in seventh grade.

Asian food is fun to make. But, my best food cooked is trail food. Heh. I can make a mean corn bread chili and a well prepared filet mignon with egg salad.

Ken - the best way to learn is to know what you like, dont be afraid to try new things and to experiment. Plus read cook books
