Bst. Game. Ever.

Well, top 5 at least

Mortaniuss
Aug 25th, 2001, 03:15:18 PM
No, System Shock 2 is probably the Best Game Ever. Followed closely by Thief Gold.

I think that proclaiming any game that's been out for less than a month "Best Game Ever" is silly.

Sanis Prent
Aug 25th, 2001, 03:20:17 PM
I didn't say best game ever....but I'm sticking by the claim that its the best "shooter" ever.

SS2 is damn close to the best game ever :)

ReaperFett

Deus Ex
Thief
May Payne
Hitman: Codename 47
Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight
Half Life
Half Life mods(deserve a group of their own)
Diablo
Delta Force
WWF Wrestlefest
Sunset Riders
Simpsons Arcade
Police 24/7 ( IF YOU HAVENT PLAYED THIS, HUNT IT DOWN)
Hidden & Dangerous
System Shock 2(although dissapointing)

That's my top 15, in no order

Sanis Prent
Aug 25th, 2001, 03:34:53 PM
you forgot RB6, h0

ReaperFett
Aug 25th, 2001, 03:36:43 PM
not played it all. Just bits of it

Mortaniuss
Aug 25th, 2001, 04:02:18 PM
I think Deus Ex was very overrated, but I'm not going to complain.

Hitman was a good game, but they didn't really introduce the story until the second-to-last mission.

--

My list:

System Shock 2
Thief Gold / Thief 2
Diablo
Sacrifice
Tribes 2
Ground Control
Doom / Doom 2
Duke Nukem 3D
Quake
Half Life
Ultima VIII: Pagan
Warcraft 2
No One Lives Forever
Heretic 2 / HeXen II
Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight

There's probably a few more I could add to that list, but it'll do. :)

Twisted Metal Black is *GASP* fun. Great tension releaser, nothing like running people down on the street while trying to blow other vehicles up.

Castlevania:Circle of the Moon is a blast. Takes the Symphony of the Night format and makes it into a great portable game on the GBA. Vampire ass kicking action. What could better?

Not PC games yet both are good games for their respected platforms.

Since bought Unbreakable on the same day as those two shall saw that was a good movie too:)

Mortaniuss
Aug 25th, 2001, 04:21:51 PM
Console Games:

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

Soul Caliber
Chu Chu Rocket
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Crazy Taxi
Sonic Adventures
NFL2K (The only good sports game I've ever played)
Deception 3: Dark Delusions
Metal Gear Solid
Silent Hill
Phantasy Star 4
Shining Force 2
Chrono Trigger
Earthbound
Final Fantasy 5
Maximum Carnage
Werewolf: The Last Hero
Arkista's Ring
The Adventures of Link
Super Mario Bros 3

I'm pretty sure that's more than 15, but what the heck, right?

Sanis Prent
Aug 25th, 2001, 04:25:05 PM
I didn't like Deus Ex. Not at all

And I don't play console games much...except for Kagero (sp) on Playstation :)

Twisted game it is.

Mortaniuss
Aug 25th, 2001, 04:29:01 PM
Kagero was awesome. But Deception 3 takes everything that was great about it and improves on it. :)

I didn't keep any screenshots, but I'll play the game again, just so I can do that. There are some INSANE shots in that game. One time, I dove across a poker table, blowing a guy across the room with a shotgun. I got up, dove back across the table, popping two guys under the chin with my double berettas :D

mine was when I was running up some stairs (4th level I think), and I heard a metallic clink. Guessing a grenade, I dived up the stairs, and saw the thrower. In my slowmo dive, I fired my Desert Eagle thrice, took him down. As I went by the corpse, I catched my mous, and he spin round to reveal another, who I killed in two. To a wather, it would look amazingly skillful. In reality? Pure fluke

Anbira Hicchoru

You use a Desert Eagle in bullet-time? Bah! A waste of talent :)

And for some reason, my favorite characters were Vinnie Gagnitti and the Finito Brothers :D

Eh but don't answer! Its eh...how you say it....rhetorical question!

I must agree - Vladimir is great :)
I also liked Jack Lupino too:

THE FLESH OF FALLEN ANGELS!!!

That was a great line in my opinion, it fit in well with where you were.

Gotta pay homage to the V-head junkies with their "I'm gonna kill ya!" - right before I pop a cap in their ass, or their head - whatever!

And a great line from "Mickey Blue Eyes" on your return to the hotel..."Fagettabaaatit!"

Its good, but SS2 is better :)

Morgan Evanar

SS2 is the best first person single player game ever. Best multiplayer only would be UT, of course.

Max Payne is pretty good, but Theif and Theif 2 are better.

1. System Shock 1 & 2 (Shodan is EEBIL)

3. XCOM 1 & 2 (Oldies but goodies)
4. Total Annihilation & Core Contingencies (Krogoth, and 20 nukes for me!)
5. Fallout trilogy (I need a plasma rifle, stimpack, bottle of rotgut, and a jimmy hat)

7. Jedi Knight (nuff said)
8. Max Payne (bullet time rox)
9. Unreal (still absolutely drool on myself when I play this)
10. Axis & Allies (I love this game. I'd play it more in the board game version, but its so hard to set up)

Can't stand Fallout, but I can see why it is a good game.

Again, to those of you who think Rainbow 6 and Rouge Spear are hot stuff, INF eats it for breakfast.

Real men use open sights.

INF?

And I discount that "Real Men..blahblahblah" argument.

Make the bullets real, make the threat real. You wanna use an in-line sight from an M-14 against a cadre of ex-soviets with briefcase nukes?

No...you use everything you damn have in your arsenal.

RB6 is good, because RB6 is REALISM.

ReaperFett
Sep 25th, 2001, 08:52:13 AM
nah. If it was realistic, I could blow limbs off :)

Sanis Prent
Sep 25th, 2001, 09:05:24 AM
True...thats one thing I wish you could do in that. But then again...you don't really use a lot of explosives. Still, every other grenade, would be nice to blow somebody in half.

Or more fun...catching a tango as he patrols next to a door, and setting of a breeching charge.

Its the world's biggest splinter, coming at you at mach 2

ReaperFett
Sep 25th, 2001, 09:09:11 AM
Who mentioned explosives? Look at how that IRA guy snuffed it in the book. I WANT THAT!!!!!!!

Q
Sep 25th, 2001, 09:23:49 AM
Rainbow Six is a little too realistic, in my opinion: It sacrifices things like gameplay and fun in favor of making itself out to be some sort of combat sim. Which is why there are far more people that play less realistic games like Counter-Strike or Infiltration.

Morgan Evanar
Sep 25th, 2001, 09:36:19 AM
INF and RB6 have different goals.

RB6 aims to be a counter-terrorism simulator. INF is more of a general warfare simlulator, hence different situations.

INF is slowly becoming much more realisitc. The chance of a soldier on a battlefield diffusing a nuclear weapon is very slim. Thats why there are specops teams like those portrayed in Rainbow 6.

Sanis Prent
Sep 25th, 2001, 09:45:24 AM
LOL .50 cal to the head...yeah, I want that too.

ReaperFett
Sep 25th, 2001, 02:47:41 PM
I enjoyed Delta Force. The way how it was realism, yet arcadey. Made great 10 minute blasts.

And, for realism, I want it where if I start unloading with a Desert Eage, point five-oh, I want it to penetrate their skull, fly out, and hit the next guy. I want to be able to kneecap the guy, putting him on his knees, before finishing him. I want a knife, conflabit!

If you could get splashed by blood, I'd be soaked :)

Q

"Stupid-Hatted"... this coming from the man who shares a country with the Palace Guards at Buckingham? Hahaha! You do amuse sometimes.

http://fyi.cnn.com/2001/fyi/news/09/13/world.perspective/story.guards.ap.jpg

And that aside, the main difference between the two games is that Return to Castle Wolfenstein has a playable test out, and the both of us have played it. You, obviously, have not. So don't try to knock it, mmmkay?

Looking at screenshots is one thing: Seeing the most realistic flame effects ever implemented in a game is another thing entirely.

ReaperFett
Sep 25th, 2001, 04:53:09 PM
Try not to knock it? I said HEARD and LOOKS. From those two, I can base a descision. I never said IS, did I?

I believe it is Unreal 2 which has a nicer looking one. And ask Morg or Nup, I hate Unreal weapons :)

Besides, Flamethrowers suck. Give me a nice Bullet-based weapon any time of the day :)

Medal of Honour looks better
Quake 3 looked great. Wasn't a great game though, was it?Do you humans normally contradict yourselves this much? :p

That comparison is there strictly because you said Medal of Honor looked better: I was debunking your claim.

Moreover, my original point was that you're attempting to judge the game based on screenshots and hear-say when you can just go download it and play it for yourself.

ReaperFett
Sep 25th, 2001, 05:19:15 PM
actually, Im waiting for it on DVD :)

If I DL a demo, it takes hours. By then, I already dislike the game.

Tell you what I want ina game. FLashbangs. But not how most games do. Seem The Negotiator? How Sam Jackson uses them? I want that.

Actually, there would be a good game. You are alone, limited recources. You have to defend your position for an ammount of time, which you can accelerate. Not enough for a full game, but it would sure be sweet
