View Full Version : Complaint: Regarding Infiltrations

First of all, I wil state that I understand how serious the issue of infiltrations is before I have the good old "Well you don't know how serious an issue it is!" statement rammed down my throat. I am not in anyway jumping on a bandwagon but am talking from personal experience here, and up until now I've kept quiet about it.

I will be vague for the time being but I would like to declare how utterly appalled I am at how people who are accused of infiltrations are treated here at SWFans.

I myself, in the past was once accused of such a crime and I think the unspoken policy amongst some of the more oppressive admins here is - guilty until proven innocent - which is absurd and you know it.

I was spoken to in a condescending, ruthless tone and treated similarly until it was discovered that I was innocent of any infiltration.

On top of that, I was completely honest with the admins here and actually provided the IP of the infiltrator, as he also appeared at TSO, I had put a lot of effort into getting the IP considering the nature of his posts were an aim to spread some sort of bug into the ezboard system.

After I was found innocent, what did I receive from the hierarchy but a mere, "Oh well, it wasn't you after all!"

I am still, to this day, waiting on an apology. I often wonder, what would happen if an admin wished to infiltrate a board in some way and got away with it whilst one of the little people suffered as a result of their actions.

when a man is found innocent in court, do the law apologise?

Gav Mortis

I never claimed the law was courtious or respectful - but it doesn't hurt to say "Sorry" man.

Huh?

I'm completely failing to recall this incident your speaking of Gav. Refresh my memory please.

does it really matter? Whats done is done

Force Master Hunter
Aug 27th, 2001, 10:37:22 PM
Yes it does bloody matter, because something has gone on here that I have absolutly no idea about today and I'm not going to put up with rumours or half assed complaints. I want to know what the hell is going on and I want to know now.

No shadow accusations. None of this BS. I want to know what the hell is going on and I want to know NOW. This sudden post of Gav's, right at the time that Jeseth springs a surprise (for me anyway) needs addressing, because to me it is related. It seems to me to be directed at undermining an Admin.

So, I want an answer. Offline will do

It was as a result of an account called "v*rusv*rusv*rusv*rusv*rusv*rusv*rus" and although I refuse to name names, you weren't one of the admins who gave me the "guilty until proven innocent" treatment over it.

Substitute the * for an i.

I seem to recal that username, but nothing about infiltration and it. O_o

The only way in which mine and Jeseths topics are related is because this reminded me of the incident to which I have referred to and I remember being infuriated at the way I was treated and now, the way Jeseth is being treated, I felt I had to voice my opinion on the matter.

It is something I wanted to say long ago but decided against it until the same has occured today with Jeseth.

FMH, I was talking to Gav, not you :)

Gav Mortis
Aug 27th, 2001, 10:45:33 PM
Well I was accused because our IPs matched until I had to resolve the issue by posting in GJO, upon which I was found innocent, however had been treated and spoken to in a manner which made me feel untrusted by the people with whom I have known for almost a year I by then.

It felt so dreadful to be not trusted in such a way and then to be treated in such an upsetting manner without an apology afterwards was just infuriating.

I'd just like to clarify that this isn't an assault on the admins on this board as I believe they do a great job here and I really appreciate it, however what I am annoyed at is how this issue is dealt with.

I appologise if my words earlier were somewhat harsh as they were influenced by the way I was feeling at the time of writing them! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

I have to agree with this, for I've been accused of infiltrating twice, even though one time was an absurd reason.
I'm not going to point fingers, but I think everyone, and I mean everyone, here is a little too uptight about this.
Most groups use standard Imperial tech anyways, so who really gives a damn if someone says, "Oh well I stole these tech plans even though their common knowledge."
And I think that if someone is so uptight as to not let a member whos been there a long time not to get any responsibility, then maybe you shouldnt let anyone join and you can be youre own little group with mulitple accounts, because its no fun when you're so uptight.
I was passed over and generally left out of a lot of the flow of things in one board even though I was the second person to join the group, and have found myself treated in some ways still.
I just hope you people realize that this is all supposed to be for fun, and when these things start to go on, there is none, especially for the person who's being accused, and especially so if they don't know what they did when they find huge aggresion going their way.
You don't know if you want to trust them ask them what groups they are in and ask some of the leaders of groups, if you're that uptight.
For any board I have, you wannna join; great! But if you oh say do something that actually gives proof and you are proven guilty, then I'll block you and report you majorly.

well in my opinion which i havent stiated for reasons i think are obvuise, i think this rule takes some fun away...i think spys and ninjas would make a great RP..provideing the RP was done propoly...like a RP a ninja would need to to litrally infiltrate a building like in a RP it would have to to be done..it is not propper battle if you dont have spys..but i dont make the rules around here..lol

no NO NO!!! No chance for the Infiltration rules to change.... EVER EVER EVER!

You dont know how much trouble Infitrators caused and I never want those days back!!!

Jeseth Cloak
Aug 28th, 2001, 12:13:22 AM
Well, I wasn't spying to begin with. I only even responded in a crass manner because I was addressed with disrespect and things were demanded of me by threat of force. I am normally not a person who will be blinded by pride, but I won't be threatened into anything, even chewing gum.

No rule changes.

No punishment changes.

Can we just drop this now? This has given me the biggest @#%$ headache.

The rules were changed when Itala was banned and it was because of him that these rules were implemented. Because another incident has occured, that is not an excuse for the rules to be changed but to be enforced since they are rules.

The staff here is working hard on the solution and answer to this entire problem. Please be cool with Ogre and FMH as they worked this out.

Gav Mortis

I have no problem with the rules, it is the attitude with which they have been enforced in the past without an apology afterwards.

Ehh.. I dont remember that username. I do remember though, a long time ago, there was the question of accountname "Nexus Dimitri" and there were no less than 9 identical IP matches. Furthermore, we found MAC address and network device to be identical also. :)

Tell me, what exactly did this Nexus Dimitri do? :)

Firebird1
Aug 30th, 2001, 09:41:38 AM
???

I don't know what bearing this has since I don't remember this happening Gav. But there are other problems that need to be addressed as well, but not ones that would affect this board or any rule pertaining to it.

Gav Mortis
Aug 30th, 2001, 10:55:22 AM
You don't know what bearing what has Firebird?

The issues generally raised in this thread or the issue of Nexus Dimitri?

Firebird, if there are problems that don't pertain to this board, then you need to take them somewhere else to discuss them.
