Ok im doing this job.I only priced it enough to cover the costs of material. Now I didnt order enough material(my fault) and had to order more.Well the material is no longer made so I had to have a 5 yard cut made just for me which means instead of just making no money off the job I go indebt for it(no biggy live and learn) now it has taken about 3 weeks for the material to get here,so im 3 weeks behind on a job that would take 1-2 days.I have everything finshed except 1 seat(waiting for material). Now I got half down on material from the get go and told him just to pay the rest when im finished.Well like I said im l;ike 3 weeks behind and Im woundering should I just say hey take it its finished or should i ask for the rest of payment(of the original price of material Not the extra I had to but).its not alot of money but to be honest this is about as broke as ole buff has ever been(and I have my 3 month vacation coming up)I just dont really know whta to do.

My advice?

Be honest, open and forthcoming to your customer, explain the situation, and see if they would be willing to help make up the difference. Tell them the whole story and apologize for the extra time, but let them know what's happening, and see what they'd like to do.

In all my dealings as a customer, when the seller was openly communicative and completely honest with me, I've always gone the extra mile to help. Maybe they will, maybe they won't, but it's worth a shot...

well i do couple things,I have a contract with a court mediation center(hard to beleave I know) School)and act/modeling(very rarely now)but I mostly do car interiors.I try and only do your Street Rod type cars.I like to take an Old car like lets say and old 57 chev.and go through it and custom it with like leather seats make new door panels and sculpture tham with new designs, stuff like that. I try and stay away from regular cars(although i do alot of them). This one that im having trouble with is a Church van , so I didnt charge any Labor (at all)It ticks me off because it such an easy job!!!! But without the material here it cant be finished :(
