Okay I received an e-mail the other day from the Angelfire groupies. This is the deal with images...

Some of you have images in your sigs from angelfire sites, in other words you are remotely linking your image from your sig from the site that is maintained over at angelfire. Well angelfire decided that they didn't want people doing this anymore for a few reasons:

They provide free websites and some people use their webspace primarily for uploading images to link to a remote server. This prevents them from making the web site user use banners and pop up promos. These banners and pop up promos are the reason that they are able to provide free web space. So if people don't have a PAGE and use their space meerly for images they have no where to advertise, and thus lose money by providing free space.

People linking remote images from angelfire have put a strain on their server and it has slowed down angelfire webpages in effect.

So they put a default image in to take the place of any angelfire image that was remotely linked elsewhere. However, they failed to inform their users, and since they felt bad about this, they let people again remotely link images until June 27, when again they will block people from using angelfire images. In conclusion, you can no longer link images from angelfire remotely.

This doesn't mean that angelfire websites and the images ON THEM are compromised in any way. It just means that if any of you are using angelfire images in yor sig, you may have to find either another image or put that image you are using now on another server that will let you remotely link it here or where ever else you may post.

Thanks to this I jumped ship to Geocities. This move is going to cost Angelfire a heck of a lot of customers.

Yeah, too bad, really. It seems most web servers are moving in this direction. I blame the people who don't even bother creating a website, but instead use their allotted just to store stuff.

I think Angelfire should find a way to give each member, say, 100kb or so of space that they CAN remotely link to. Just enough space for a banner and an image or two.

(LOL Dale for retreiving this thread. **Memories**)

Did anyone ever get official word of this? I didn't. I looked around the Yahoo and Geocities pages to see if I could find anything, but couldn't.

I know it is pretty obvious that Geocities did this, but at least Angelfire sent out word. It is the professional thing to do. By now everyone has moved their stuff anyway I suppose.
