The book "Rogue Planet" takes place when Anakin is 12 years old, and there's an appearance by "Commander Tarkin".

Doesn't really mean anything, but this sort of makes me wonder if Tarkin will indeed be in Episode 2, as many have speculated.

Or did the author just pick an Imperial that he liked, and scale him back a few ranks to fit the timeline?

i think we'll definitely see tarkin in the prequels. without a doubt.

I liked the book. I thought they did a real good job with Tarkin. And you get to see little details about the future that are very interesting. Like the early desings for....

the Death Star. And we finally get to see Anakin struggle with his anger and give in to the Dark Side. That was my favorite part of the book.
