Just read this that Paul Anderson most famous for directing Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon has signed on to direct and write Resident Evil which will start filming in January. If anyone does not know what Resident evil is, it is based on the hit Playstation game about a swat team investigating a house that ends up being full of Zombies. I think it would make a great film because it is one of the few video games that has a true plot. I am worried though about Anderson's involvment because while he did make the best and most successful video game film ever he also has directed one bomb, Solider and one at best mediocre film in Event Horizon. What does everyone else think?

Well, I think Soldier failed so badly due to the plot and not really because of the directing. In fact, some of the scenes were actually pretty cool.
I'm quite wary of any movie based on a video game. It's like when you see a cereal based on your favorite cartoon character: As much as you want to try it, you don't expect it to be very good.:)
I've heard tidbits here and there, but I've never actually played the game. That said, I'm doubtful even a video game with a solid plot would translate well to the movie screen. In fact, the good plot of the game might be bad for the movie, since instead of just using the characters and locations, the writers of the movie now have to follow a specific storyline.

I hadn't thought of that, plus the game is very scary an dI am not sure if they can recreate the feel of the game. Really there has only been one good film translated from a video game Mortal Kombat and that made about 150 million world wide, oddly the sequal which is not very good, is the second most succesful video game turned into a film. There has been so many bad ones, including Super Mario Brothers, Street Fighter, and Double Dragon all come to mind. That is why I wonder why they are doing more. Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, and Resident Evil are all now going to be made in the next two years. I am just wondering why?

I guess it's because movie producers want easy money with little risk. Why invent new characters and stories that may or may not catch on, when you can use existing stories that are already popular and guarantee you (hopefully) at least moderate success at the Box Office? I'm assuming that's why we're seeing so many remakes and rereleases as well.(Planet of the Apes, Psycho, Exorcist, etc.)
