This should be a great weekend for moviegoers you have what appears to be a terrific comedy in Meet the Parents and then there is the slyvester stone action film Get Carter. I think Meet the Parents will win out because it looks hillarious but it will probably be close.

I predict Get Carter will be No. 1, as all the old film buffs go to see a remake of a masterpiece.

That reminds me, better go see the original

I think Meet the Parents will edge out Sly. Not by much though.

I don't think there's that many film buffs out there.

Meet the Parents was number 1 BIG on Friday and Remember the Titans was number 2.

Get Carter had a pretty mediocre ooening day. I think Stallone's star has faded.

Here is the Friday's Box office
1 MEET THE PARENTS UNIVERSAL 2,612 8,560,977 3,278 8,560,977
2 REMEMBER THE TITANS BUENA VISTA 2,701 5,581,125 2,066 32,235,840
3 GET CARTER WARNER BROS. 2,315 1,997,378 863 1,997,378
4 EXORCIST, THE WARNER BROS. 1,150 1,364,408 1,186 20,602,380
5 DIGIMON: THE MOVIE 20TH CENTURY FOX 1,822 1,233,297 677

Actually Get Carter did not do that bad it was only on 863 screens. It will probably finish in third making about 8 million. Here is my guess for this weekend
Meet the Parents 26 million
Remember the Titants 16 million
Get Carter 8 Million
Exorcist 4 million
Digimon beter known as Digicrap 3 million.

Get Carter was actually on 2,335 (or something) screens this weekend.

$6.7M total...for Stallone, that's pretty awful. I think we all have to accept that he's a thing of the past.

On the other hand, Meet the Parents...did anyone expect that? $29M over a three day weekend in October!! Amazing!! It beat the old record by $12M, thats simply incredible.

Well I was right about meet the parents winning the weekend, as most people were, but I was waaaaaay off about them being anywhere near each other. I think this proves that Sly star is quickly fading...anyone for Rambo 4? :)

863 was Get Carter's per screen average not the number of screens. (I made the same mistake when I first looked at the results for Friday.)

OUCH.

Less than 1,000 per theater on opening day.

Another Rocky would just be SAD. Why not just ask for another Demolition Man or Judge Dredd?

MTP is the first film in months that my wife and I have had ANY interest in going to see. It looks hilarious and hopefully we'll get a sitter this weekend and check it out. The airport gag is the one that finally got my wife interested. That was a pretty funny line.
