Today I read that Bruce Willis has officially retired from Action films. Although he has signed for Die Hard 4, he said that this isnt like the others, with less action then before.

I am sad now. I always knew that, no matter what, I could rely on him, Cage, Clooney and occasionally Stallone to give us a good action flick. Now that list dwindles...

damn,
what about the planned 5th element sequels :(
luc besson planned the film as a trilogy much like lucas did with starwars, just in case you didnt know that

that does suck, well hope they do DH4 well, the last didnt have as much physical action as the other 2 and i think it was one of the best of the series,

The old dinosaurs of action flicks are starting to show their age, plus one man army action flicks don't do so well anymore. It's a shame, but true. :(

Bout Damn time.

:p

I DID kind of like[d] Die Hard ONE and Lethal Weapon ONE (until the silly mano a mano slugfest at the end) and even Rambo ONE had some really strong points.

Most of the Clones - er, Sequels sucked.

Besides, how man[y] gangs o[f]n international terrorists/mercenaries are their out there, and how many big giant things can they take over?

I liked all three Die Hard movies they were all great, they had intelligent scripts and came up with creative messes for Mclain to become involved in. I also like Leathal Weapon 1-3. I thought 4 was okay but the characters were just too old. I hope that is the last one they will make. It is weird that the action genre seems to be dying but I think it is because they just redo the same ideas and plots over and over again.

I can see a few popping up. Clooney and Cage are good now, and I think Affleck can do it well. Pitt could do it. Add McGregor, Miller, Carlyle, Dougray Scott and a few other Brits, and you see the problem is less no actors, more that gambles need taking

My worry is that no Action films means that I will get bored with films. When I made my top 20 films, it was full of Action films, like Armageddon, M:I2, Hard Boiled and GI60S. Few would put them in, but thats how I like a film. Sheer enjoyment. Sometimes I dont want to think, I WANT ACTION! GUNPLAY! GUNS! GANG WARFARE! Cliche? Who cares?

Question for the day: WHy is it that when a action film is made, critics say "No plot". When a Kung Fu film is made, they say "No plot- But who cares!" What double standards!

I daresay it's because everyone is just getting sick and tired of the old guns and action. Kung fu movies and the like haven't been around as much so critics aren't too worried since to them it's fresher and more original.

I'm not surprised Bruce Willis wants to get out of action - as of late he has been movie into alternative projects and I think he just wants a change.
