Tuned in about ten minuutes ago and so far it looks pretty crappy. Can't stand the dialogue between the characters and the computer graphics are ambitious, but rather obvious, especially in the scenes where real life is combined with CG elements. Not believable at all in some cases.
I didn't expect much from this series, but I was hoping to be surprised. I'm really mad they tacked on Gene Roddenberry's name to the project.

What is 'Andromeda'? I've never heard of it.

It's a sci-fi type show starring Kevin Sorbo (from "Hercules"). It's actually called "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda".

Majel Barret Roddenberry (Nurse Chapel, Lwaxana Troi and the voice of most of the ST computers) is the Exec. producer - hence the name hype.
At least I have a chance to actually catch this one at the beginning, unlike Earth: Final Conflict. I've never bothered with that one cause didn't catch any eps early on.
Andromeda looked pretty generic. I don't know. Babylon 5, Andromeda, Earth Final Conflice and a lot of other new sci-fi tv shows look pretty mediocre. Not reall BAD, just not very interesting. At lease Farscape LOOKS cool. I haven't seen that one too much either.

Babylon 5 mediocre????????? ::slams Darth in the head with a frying pan:: Babylon 5 is cool! Way better than that Star Trek drivel!
Also, I'm a huge Farscape fan. Very cool show.

Babylon 5? Really?
I alys thought the acting and the writing REALLY sucked. I think I've only ever sat through 2 whole episodes. Bruce Boxlightner should be nominated for the Gil Gerard/ Lee majors acting award. It just always seemed REALLY generic to me.
I know a lot of people liked it, I could never figure out why.
Plus the cgi effects always looked too sterile and shiny.

I never got into Babylon 5, but I do give it credit for being somewhat original. Came out before sci-fi became real trendy.
One of the reasons I never got into the show is the crappy CGI. I think the ship designs are interesting, but I don't think the artists have ever heard of TEXTURE. i.e., instead of a liquid-smooth surface that is super-shiny and reflects light perfectly, you're supposed to have scratches and subtle variations in the surface. Also, if the camera gets too close to the ship, you can see the individual pixels that make up the ship's hull. Even as a complete amatuer, I'd be embarrassed to submit something like that in my resume.

Weren't the fx made with a Video Toaster?
I'm sure they'd be a lot more inpressive if they were made today.

I ended up seeing the last 5 minutes of Andromeda TEICE this weekend on 2 different networks. Maybe I'll figure out when it's on eventually.
