I rented Mission Impossible 2 yesterday and just watched it a few hours ago and i must say I cannot believe that it made 215 million it was worse than the second one. The first half of the film was so slow there was almost no action which is a problem for a action film sure there was some cool car chases at the end but then they kept throwing in these mask, which got ridiculous and too obvious and then other parts of the plot seemed to not make any sense. Then they under used Ving Rhimes and Anthony Hopkins both are wasted in this picture. I didn't care for the bad guy either Dougray scott he just didn't seem evil enough to me. And finally I was really annoyed that they redid the wire act sequence from the first film that was one of the best parts of that movie and they do it again?? I just hope they do not make a sequel because it would probably be worse.

You said it! I know a lot of people loved it, but for me it's one of those movies that I just can't believe was so successful.

I didn't love it, but I did like it. Better thn some of the other films I've seen this year. I do agree though that the film wasn't the best outing for many of the people involved.

None of my friends liked it that is why I didn't see it when it first came out. Also when did Ethan Hunt learn Martial Arts, he did no such thing in the first film, then all of that slow mode crap got ridiculous too it looked like they were coping the Matrix.

Mi2 made most of it's money because of:

- Hype - it was hyped as THE movie to see - Mtv and Vh1 rans Tom Cruise specials over and over before it came out.

- the Memorial Day holiday. There should be a asterix next to it's BO total to indicate that it's Opening was Holiday Assisted. :)

Also when did Ethan Hunt learn Martial Arts

Yeah, why would a top secret agent need martial arts, eh?

I loved it. Better than Matrix anyday. THIS had a degree of realism

Yeah but he showed none of those skills in the first film which was only four years ago so I doubt that he learned those kind of moves in that kind of time plus it completely destroyed the concept of the series which was about team work, which this movie showed that an individual could do it all. Look at the end he killed at least 20 men, and where did these guys come from where does an ex IM agent get that many men, could one man really do that, especially the way he did it it is just completely unrealistic. The first film was more realistic and had better plot even though it was a little complicated, but in the end you didn't see him have to fight an army of troops to win.

I think if you ignore it's title and take it for what it is the film isn't half bad. But because they've tacked on the 'Mission: Impossible' tag inevitably people are going to compare it to the original TV series and movie when making their judgements on it.

What made the film in particular frustrating was Woo's usual hints and signatures that he uses in most of his films as a reminder of who making the film, like all the furious acion scenes, the use of doves flying around etc.

In a lot of ways the James Bond films are heading the same direction. The only things that make the current crop of films even resemble the original Ian Fleming novels is the the character names and the nifty gadgets that Bond gets to play with. Take away those and you'd never figure out that you'd be watching a Bond film because it's now so different.

I liked it enough to buy it on DVD, then again, I wouldn't have bought it unless I got a major discount. I saw it for sale for $14.99 so I figured I'd buy it. Its a good film to throw in and count the kicks ("Why don't we call it Kickin' Impossible?"-Tom Crooze/Ben Stiller). Although the movie isn't top notch, the DVD is fully loaded, one of the better disks I own thats the main reason I got it. Total Movie Mag gave the DVD good reviews. And $15 bucks is worth a hih quality addition to my growing collection.

I can't stand the motorcycle chase at the end. I mean, when they're racing through the streets, they've got the street tires on the bikes. But magically, when they get to the beach, they're got their dirt tires on...how did that happen? Surely Ethan isn't that talented???

A friend of mine noticed the tire change right away, also. Kinda funny.
Seemed that Tommy always did things in the most difficult way possible. For example, a man is lying on the ground behind him, and Tommy wants to finish him off. Instead of just turning around and kicking him, Tommy jumps in the air, does a backflip, and lands on the guy with his knee, all in slow-motion.

Anyway, enough MI2 bashing from me.:)

I just saw this a few days ago actually, and kinda liked it. Sure it may have been a little slow to start, but overall it was an enjoyable film.

And for the record, it would have been perfectly possible for him to achive that level of martial arts in 4 years. Changing the tyres on the bikes while moving though...well, I guess thats why he's a top secret agent and we're not! ;)

Are you serious?

I think you mean the first one, but regardless in action films you do not want to be thinking, if you have to figure out the plot on your own then the film has some problems. Action films are like Die Hard where terroists take over a building take hostages and good guy kills them all. Not once in that movie did you have to think, that is why they work because they are brainless movies. Name me one good action film that made you think, not counting Mission Impossible 2 which I realized in the beginning that I had to leave my brains at the door in order to enjoy it. My problem with MI2 is that there was not enough action it got too boring at times for me plus I got sick of the Matrix rip off slow moo crap and then all the kung fu noneses as well it was just too much for me.

I got sick of the Matrix rip off slow moo crap and then all the kung fu noneses as well it was just too much for me

Please watch the following films:

Hard Boiled
The Killer
Face/off
Hard Target
A better tommorow

all of which are by John Woo. AGES before Matrix ripped it off. All Matrix is is a series of rip-off from John Woo, Star Wars and Blade

And most spies would know martial arts
