Doesn't necessarily have to be a World War I/II film. Any film related to war will do.

My favourite war film would probably have to be 'Where Eagles Dare' with Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood. Not just a war film as much s a mystery which kept you guessing till the end.
Personally I think 'Saving Private Ryan' is a tad overrated - sure the opening scenes are excellent but the storyline is very basic (soldier needs rescuing, so send group out and find him and run into this and that along the way). I don't deny its message against war but for entertainment value I've seen better.
'Glory' is quite a good film though it's historical accuracy has been somewhat fidled with (but that's typical of Hollywood). Still it had great performances from Matthew Broderick, Cary Elwes, Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington.
I haven't seen the 'Thin Red Line' yet.
'The Patriot' is what I consider to be 'popcorn entertainment'. Good fun to watch, but hardly to be taken seriously. The English are portrayed as monsters whereas the Rebels are saviours. Mel Gibson's character is also portrayed to be the perfect person (he doesn't even own slaves - he pays them wages).
My 2 cents. :)

The only one I could remember watching was SPR. I'm sure I'm forgetting a great movie though.

I voted for Glory. I've always been interested in the American
Civil War, and while I also enjoyed Saving Private Ryan and The
Patriot (haven't seen The Thin Red Line), I just think that Glory
is far better. The setting, acting, directing, score and realism
(compared to a lot of Hollywoodized historical movies, that is)
are excellent.
And about The Patriot. It didn't portray
the British as monsters, only that Tavington guy. And a lot
of Southern landowners did not have slaves, they actually did
have people that worked the land and get paid. Also, you should
really have expected it to portray the Colonials as heroic saviors
and such, considering it's about the American Revolution, it'
s told from the American POV, and it was made by Americans (except
the director, who's German).

Not quite. After Ben Martin and co began to annoy the hell out of the Brits the head general (I can't think of his name at the moment) supported Tarrington is his methods, so it doesn't exactly show the Brits in a good light there.
As for showing the Americans as saviours etc, that's good for you Americans, but don't expect all us non-Americans to be so indifferent about it. Frankly I think it just undermines the movie, not enhances it or anything (not to mention that Gibson and Ledger were both Australian but anyway). I had the same niggles with 'Saving Private Ryan' - constant American flagwaving depsite the fact that the US was just one of many nations that invaded Normandy.
But hey theyr'e movies, and everyone has their own taste. :)

I think we need a Canadian war epic movie. where everyone is friendly, and you settle wars by drinking rivals under the table, and then playing a game of hockey with them.

Jervs, great call on Where Eagles Dare. That was a great Burton flick. Eastwood was just becoming a huge star but it was a Burton vehicle and he was great in it. Very entertaining flick.
I think I'll have to go with...
Platoon.
Honorable mentions, in no particular order;
Patton
Hamburger Hill
Heartbreak Ridge (Not really a war flick, but a good Armed Forces comedy.)
Full Metal Jacket
Kelly's Heroes
Three Kings
