Tobey rules, the guys a great actor(for his age) he can play a dork which is exactly what Peter Parker was when he got his powers. He was a young nerd, this guy will play that to a T. Supposedly he's buffed up a bit and will fill out the uniform ok, he's not supposed to be huge, more of your everyday guy and hero. I thought it was a great choice

I have to agree with those who like the costume. Spidey isn't suppose to be buff. Especially if the movie is covering his origin. Peter Parker is a wimpy lanky science geek when he gets his powers. Even at the height of his powers Spiderman never had the build of a Batman or a Captain America. He should be played by someone who has a slim, athletic build. Sorry buff, only the Hulk should be played by someone with your build!

I wish I had the hulks build!!!!!!! anyway ,I know spidey is not supposed to be a huge guy BUT he is supposed to be somewhat muscular Look at the comics, look at the Cartoon shows he has muscles.Yes peter is a dork BUT he is also a goodlooking dork(this guy aint) this guy will hurt spider -man UNLESS he is DAM6 good when he has the suit on.
its like batman Mike keaton WAS a awlful BRUCE WAYNE BUT a great Batman (course the suit didnt hurt )Val kilmer was a great bruce wayne but an Awlful Batman (do yall see what im saying???????? =)I want this movie to be GREAT but I think we have another captian america type movie on our hands.Anyway ill stop rambling.

My 2 cents? The movie will be fine. You know, not GREAT necessarily, but enjoyable. Probably something like X-Men was: OK movie, but damn entertaining. MY reasoning on this is mainly because Raimi is at the helm. He has a great gift for 'tricking' you into loving something. Dark Man. The script: honestly, not that good. But through great direction, Raimi makes it enjoyable---he did it like a comic book, and that's what matters here I'd say (it being a comic book film, etc). Along with this goes being truthful to the story, and its here that I see problems. That is, if the rumours surrounding "natural" web-shooters and such turn out to be true. On the Tobey McGuire casting? I can only assume that Raimi looked over the script, saw that at this point in time Spidey was still young and a geek. "I need a geek. Idea! Why don't I get... a geek to play the... geekish young superhero!" he probably thought. Enter Tobey. If I'm not mistaken, the film takes place around his beginnings, yes? Pick up Amazing Fantasy #15 and you'll see what Steve Ditko and Stan Lee made the guy out to look like, and my guess is, Raimi is gunning for that.
on another note, even if he were incredibly muscled and buff, ya probably wouldn't see it in the tight costume.

I think Tobey is great for the role.
Will the movie be good though? I don't know. For those who don't know I posted a link to the Spiderman script review down lower - it wasn't very positive at all.

The Script may change, ya never know. I don't think they'd go ahead with a bad script at this point. After X-Men did well I think they need to get a good movie out of another of their franchise characters. With the string of awefull movies(Punisher, FF, Captain America) it looked like comic movies were doomed but X-Men turned it around a bit and I think they'll keep the upswing going.

I'm just happy that they're keeping the original costume alive and not going for some grunge, black leather suit like other producers would have done.

Amen! They coulda done it too with the black alien costume.

Actually, I think costumes from comics used in movies look dorky. I was so glad when I saw the pics of the costumes in the X-Men movie...those costumes looked great, IMO. Very realistic. I mean, come on, who in the real world would dress up in bright, flashy, way-too-tight spandex clothes if they wanted to be taken seriously?

I was talking strictly Comic Book Movies Albi.
Most comic costumes are a bit out there, those skin tight spandex outfits don't usually transfer well to other mediums. With Spidermans though you have to keep it similar, its too well known, ditto with Captain America and Superman. Those are classic costumes, the Batmans is the same but as long as its dark with the cowl and cape then it works.

That suit was definetly cool Buff, but I have a feeling they're hoping to turn this into a franchise(ala Batman) so maybe a movie or two down the line he'll find the black costume, it'll turn on him and he'll face Venom.

I guess that makes sense JJWR, I would really like to see it do as well as Batman and make it to A movie about Venom That would rock .But I just cant get over the guy playing Spidey(i hope im wrong and he ends up being great).

I liked Keaton in both parts, thought he did a great job.
If you've seen some of the stuff Tobey has been in then you won't have any worries about Spiderman, the guys good. Check out Pleasantville. He plays the dork part pretty well and he's supposed to be bigger now so he'll fill out the suit better. As long as the dialogue isn't too cheesey all he needs to do in the suit is the straight physical stuff and the dialogue, no need to worry about him looking stupid trying to be tough, thats what the mask is for :)

It'd be so cool if this guy turns out to be as good playing Spider-Man as Hugh Jackman was as Wolverine in X-Men...

He was pretty Peter Parkerish in Pleasantville.
The wiser-cracking Spiderman might be harder to pull off.

And see Cider House Rules with him in it. Not to see him in action, but to see Charlize Theron's booty
