I just got this for my birthday yesterday and after watching I was surprised at the scenes that were cut (9 minutes) there were a couple of scenes that were useless but there were others especially the ones dealing with Randy Quaid's character and his kids along with the ones with Jeff Goldblum and the scientist on the space ship in Area 51. These scenes I thought added some new insight into the movie especially Randy Quaid's character. I am guessing they only got rid of them for reasons of time. Overall its a good DVD to own because of all the added features including the original ending that is on disc 2 which watching it I know why and glad it was changed.

were there any scenes in which a foreigner was not shown in an insulting way?
And what was the original ending?

The original ending showed Randy Quaid's character in his biplane instead of the F-14, supposidly in this version he was not allowed to fly but he takes it upon himself to fly his biplane with a warhead attach to it and fly into the ship. As far as foriegners being shown in insulting way what do you mean? I can't think of any scene in the movie like that, in fact they barly even showed any body who was not an american. They had that scene towards the end when they were communicating their plane around the world but I don't think they showed the British, Israels, Arabs, Russians or the Japanesse in any way negative since they barly had a line. I do wish they could have shown some more scenes with the attack on foreign cities like London, Paris, etc. I read somewhere that they filmed some of that but it was never finished and I do not think it is on the DVD.

lets see:
English have dumb accents
Germans/Russians(couldn't work out which) are in big castle on mountain(What is this, a WW2 film?)
The others where the English are are, naturally, despising the others
And there is the other thing. The fact they showed little of them. All they were there for was for a needless piece. They could have at least shown other flights going on.
And I like that ending :)

Look on the bright side Reaper - the good old US of A got practically annihilated. i don't think they'd be in any position to reclaim their superpower status after that.
Enter in the Aussies who didn't even lose Sydney. :)

LoL, yeah I was surprised that the Aliens waited into the end of the movie to atttack Australia. Back to the foriegners, man Reaper you notice things that I never even thought of before but a couple of them I think are inaccurate. First it was the Russians and it looked like to me it was in some desolote Kremlin like facilite that they were hold up in. that would make sense, since after Moscow was destroyed they would be hold up in the best defensive position which in Russia would be some castle in the middle of no where. As far as the bad accents I have heard worse, Robin Hood comes to mind, I doubt they even thought about it. I do agree with you that I wish they would have shown more of the other cities, I would like to have seen London, or Paris destroyed like NY and Washington was it would have interesting to see the Eiffle Tower and Big Ben blown up that was shown in Mars Attacks but that movie was terrible.

I got this DVD a few days ago, and I love it. The extra scenes definitely improve the movie, and the special features are great too. Actually I'm glad they dropped the biplane ending, that woulda just completely ruined the moment... Also, I would have liked to see other cities like London, Paris, Berlin, Moscow, etc. get destroyed along with the three American ones, and it would have been cool to see the Area 51 battle happening all over the world, but I guess they were worried about the length of the movie (too bad they took so long with the stuff that was actually in the movie)...
There's an ID4 novel about the Middle Eastern guys we saw fighting the aliens and how they're still fighting them after the movie ends. It's supposed to be pretty cool, from what I've heard about it.

I think I'd still hate this movie, even with the new footage. :p
I think 'they' (Hollywood) were saving the destruction of Paris when Arageddon came out.

You hate this movie? Aww, that's a shame, I thought it was fun. Certainly not the best flick ever, but good for killing time.
And the destruction of Paris in Armageddon was okay, but I still think it woulda been cooler to see more than just American cities destroyed in ID4, though worldwide fighter battles woulda been a good substitute. ::pictures MiG-29s and Su-27s blowing away alien attackers...::

I enjoyed the movie too I found it entertaining and did not look for some kind of oscar film just an escapist alien movie and unlike Mars Attacks which tried too much to be funny it was enjoyable. Mars Attacks had those world wide battle, I think the aliens destroyed London (Big Ben) Easter Island, The Taj Mahal, and Paris but it was too silly and a complete disapointment I could believe they wasted Nicholson, Glenn Close, Michael J. Fox, Danny Devito, and Pierce Broson along with killing them all off. It showed how bad of film it was when Tom Jones and Jim Brown did the best acting jobs in the movie.
