Is anyone going to see this? I know many were surprised when Jodie Foster backed out. My local radio station was talking about it the other day. They were ragging on her for making a stupid career choice. Of course, neither one of the DJs had read the novel. A listener who'd read the book called up and filled in the blanks and the DJs quickly saw why Foster jumped ship. I didn't read the novel but my wife heard the tape during a business trip she had to make. The first thing she said to me when she got out of the car was; "You're not going to believe how stupid Hannibal ends!"
I don't want to give away the plot, but Foster's FBI agent does things that are COMPLETELY out of character. In many ways she was treated like a MINOR character in the novel. I know they may have changed things in the screenplay to beef her character up for the sequel, but NO script could save the novel's ending unless they completely change the story and I'm not sure the author would go for that.
Bottom line, if the movie ends the way the novel does viewers will walk away sorely dissapointed. I doubt this movie will cross the $100M mark and I fully expect it to fall short short of the critical and Oscar success of the original.

Actually I read they completely changed the ending. Orignially Mamet did this to get Foster on board but she backed out for other reasons but they still decided to keep this changed ending, I have heard that it is way different than the book and makes Clarice look much like the way her character did in Silence of the Lambs.

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and can't wait for HANNIBAL. Jodie Foster will be missed(though I love Julianne Moore). I know what the book's ending was...more than anything I think the author did it to anger his audience. That might seem strange, but apperently he didn't want to write a sequel, but felt compelled to by "the masses". So he kind of threw everyone a curveball, as if to say "I'm still the boss."

I intentionally skipped the first one, so I don' think I'll be seeing this one either.
