Looking at the stats for the last week dollar wise, I have noted Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is No 10.... but with only 167 places of screening! Wow! 3.6 million over 167 screens is whatt.... a lot per screen. When's it going into wide release?

I haven't heard of either of them. They probably aren't gonna make it to the universal market. Which sucks. There are probably hundreds of brilliant movies out right now throughout the world but I don't know about them cuz the US only advertises blockbusters.

before long it will be up to over 1000 screens..They have a plan for it, and understand there is a great chance it will pull in 6 or 7 Oscar nominations...they want to do this step by step, and build buzz, so when it comes to the next town, it will have a built in group who are ready to see it..

If they open it up wide now, they risk having it not do well in small places, and theaters will not want to keep it...so if the buzz is super strong, and they have many awards behind it, people will want it, and it will make more money..their plan seems to be working so far..over 13 million in America, and never more then 160 + screens in only 3 weeks..

If you can not wait for it, you can order the Region 3 DVD from www.hivizone.com for 25 bucks. I will be out in a week, but the DVD is coded for Region 3, so you will prob only get to play it on your computer if you live outside region 3, and then only if you have a crack to let you play other regions..

It still has the highest per theatre average in the Top 10. With the likely Oscar nominations it will recieve....this film might gross 80-100M.

...it was really good. The performances were terrific, great sets, great costumes, awesome fight sequences, spledid cinematography. It's one helluva pic. It is definitely one of 2000's best films.

I saw it tonight. I thought it was good - I didn't really think it was great.

...film of 2000. In fact I'd be hard pressed to fit it in my top 4 slots. But nonetheless I found it to be really good(I too am not willing to throw "great" on it, at least not till another viewing or two) and definitely among the best 10 films of last year.

Probably the third greatest Hong Kong action movie of all-time, or at least a top five HK film.

I thought it was the 2nd best movie of 2000, behind Gladiator, and just barely ahead of Remember the Titans.

What a wonderful film, and the release schedule is brilliant, much like the one for American Beauty which seemed to work so well.

American Beauty, though, could have probably tried a more general strategy and done well still, but Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon really needed this more unorthodox, staggered opening.

Many people only wanted to see the film because of its buzz, and that took some time to build.

Of course, now, the film is getting amazing word of mouth, probably some of the best ever. 97% at Rotten-Tomatoes.com I think too...

At my local theater, they were still selling out showings this weekend, on its fourth weekend of release there. That's very impressive for any movie.

I think it has a good shot at $100 million eventually, but yeah, $85 million or so seems more realistic maybe.

Still, movies can benefit hugely because of the Academy Awards. Those things are REAL GOLD at the box office, hehe, so while I may think the awards are tainted and corrupt, they are still very valuable to any films lucky enough to win (because it is luck, not necessarily quality or talent, hehe). Theaters don't have much else to play, so they are apt to keep a film that continues to perform fairly well and is an award winner that'll keep drawing audiences.

I saw the film twice so far, but that's really not enough at all. I'd like to get in one more showing at least.

How can you not say that it is great? Obviously you are entitled to your opinions, but that surprises me, since probably at least 95% of moviegoers would call it excellent or very good.

CTHD is packing them out in Australia too - interestingly it's at smaller theatres right now. The theatre I saw it at was more of a art film theatre and there was a line around the block to get in. Yes, it's word of mouth is awesome and I can understand why.

Visually, a stunning film. The soundtrack works really well and the fight scences were superb. Not what I was expecting in the end to be honest, but all the same, it was simply one of the best I have seen.

If I was to discuss more, it would simply ruin the plot. Do yourself a favour and go see this movie, but for once the critics have it right. This IS a superb movie.

I would think that CTHD will have to be nominated for awards, it has to be. It's just too good. I tend to think Gladiator and CTHD are indeed 2000's best moives and it will be interesting to see who will win.

If it wins Ocsars - hell, get noimaatied, watch it go into wide release. As it fully deserves.

I think with Coruching TIger, it was more a question of trying to get theaters to tke the movie, after the first couple of weeks. I think it would have moved to more theaters sooner if it could have.

It's playing on 1700 screens now, which isn't HUGE, but it's a respectable number. I hope it does get into a few more though. I'm pretty sure it won't win best picture - the voters will prolly give it best Foreign film, since it's nominated for that also.

I personally didn't like the whole sword bit. I didn't want the story based on a girl lusting for a comb and a sword. Jen was A GIGANTIC babe though.
