Box Office Contest - July 20

Jurassic Park 3 starts Wednesday, July 18, And Julia '100 million dollar woman' Roberts
returns with America's Sweethearts on Friday.

Since JP opens Wednesday, it will probaly be easier to judge it's performance for the weekend. Unfortunatelty for me I'll be leaving town at 6 am Thursday, so I might not be able to update my picks with Wednesday's totals in mind.

Anyway, Deadline is the same as always Friday night 3:00 am EDT (midnight for the West coast). Pick the top 5 movies and their grosses.

I think thats a little low for JP3 I think it will do at least 40 for the 3 days. Most people see movies on the weekends so I am not sure if Wed or Thursday will affect it much.

Maybe, but I'm down on JP3. it's the only movie I'm cheering against. :mad: ^}

Plus It seems like the OB is pretty slow lately, and I think that Planet of the Apes is really the only movie that can pull it out of it's slump.

Actually I think what is hurting the BO is the lack of popcorn films like JP 3. Think about it we have had very few of those type of films this year. The Mummy Returns, A Knights Tale, The Fast and the Furious, and Tomb Raider. And the latter two have fizzled out now so I think JP 3 will do very well mostly because of the reasons I pointed out in the other thread.

Lee's Movie Info is predicting 73.1 million for JP3 (105 for 5 days). That's an early prediction. I think it's WAY to high, but that's me. I guess we'll have a better idea after the opening numbers come out.

That does sound a little high. I was thinking of it opening in the 50's and maybe 70ish for the 5 days. Still, I drove by my local theater before work and it was packed and everybody seemed to be going to see JP3.

Hey does anyone understand how the revenue works for Jurassic Park 3? Ok so it's a Universal Pictures release, but Amblin has their logo on it too and did the other films, so does that mean Amblin, which was folded into DreamWorks, gets some piece of the revenue? I'm confused...

We're predicting fir the weekend only. Any money JP3 makes today and tomorrow doesn't count towards the contest.

So if JP makes 30 million on Fri and Sat, maybe it will only have another 30 million in it for the weekend.

I doubt it will do that low, I talked to some people who went to see it yesterday and there theater was packed. One told me that parents were taking their kids. I expect a lot of the 8-12 male crowd really want to see it and think it will do a lot of money this weekend. Here is my prediction
