Is LTW the REAL number 1 here? IMO it's not fair to compare its holiday weekend to other normal weekends. It would never have had such a huge Sunday ($26M, biggest day of the 3 days). At all means a very impressive opening, but it always looks like an unfair comparison.

Its not fair if you dont include inflation either, as if a film in 1950 grossed what Mission: Impossible 2 got, that would have required everyone in the world to see it many times, and would have been able to get them a large army of mercenaries :)

True, but inflation is kind of a lame excuse among boxoffice freaks. :)

Of course there really is no other way to compare LTW to non-holiday openers, but it still doesn't feel right to a number freak like me.

What aboot the whole Wednesday opener thing?

Surely that affects the Fri-Sun period.

Definitely.

Why don't these people open all their movies on non-holiday weekend Fridays so us boxoffice fans can make nice comparisons? :)

Or they could come up with some phony conversion formulas so we could argue about the validity of them.

It's going to be real difficult for EP2 to break that record because of it's Wed. Opening. I think the records to break are TPM's 1 day totals. Still, AOTC should be able to get into the top 3 quite easily.

I think it will have a chance if it opens on the 22nd like everybody thinks. That is the wed before Memorial Day which means its sunday will be like a Saturday. At the very least I think it will pass POTA and take #2 on the list and take in somwhere between 69-70 for the 3 day period, if this sceniro plays out.

What's the thing with Wednesday openings? Why is that more usual than Thursday or Tuesday openings?
