I thought for a second it was some sort of time-laapse photography, but now I see it must be one of those panoramic (360 degree) pictures. Clearly, if you cut it in the center and stretch it out flat, it's a desert landscape.
Looks like some photographers are having a lot of fun distorting the Select Pics! Seems every one has a different effect that you have to decode!!:)

the white/tan thing is the top of a ship/satellite hovering or coming to a planet(naboo I guess).
