Our source tells us that the "Emperor" (we assume this means Darth Sidious) will have a lightsaber that is singled ended, and Scimitar shaped (meaning it is a curved blade). You could call it a "light scimitar"
They also give a link to an example of what a scimtar is

Personally I think the idea is kind of cool. Now will yoda have a lightsaber in the next movie.

Personally i think the idea s*cks. maybe it would be cool, but they would never be able to come up with a good explanation on how the f*ck the blade could be bent.
sorry for the s*cks and the f*cks, but i couldnt think of anything better to write. :)

Personally, I don't think they need to explain how the blade could be bent any more than they have to explain how the blade can exist in the first place. Is it more implausible for the blade to be bent than for light (or laser) to come out of a hilt and extend only so far? Or for that light or laser to contain properties of a solid?

I really don't like the idea of lightsabre "gimmicks". Maul's double-bladed sabre was okay, because it was basically two sabres joined together, nothing special. Really, a standard lightsabre is simple and effective and I don't see any plausible reason to have curved blades or nunchucks or any of the other fancy ideas people have come up with. Lightsabres are cool; don't mess with a good idea.;)

I think it looks cool too, it makes him look even more of a menacing figure.

What would be the point of it? It's not like it can be any sharper than what the lightsabers already are, and it's not like they're any lighter in terms of weight, and GL usually has a reason for doing these kinds of things. I just don't see any reason for him to do this. It's a gimmick, plain and simple.

I think it makes him look more fearsome, if you saw somebody holding a saber in that shape wouldn't you be scared.

If I was standing face to face with a Sith, he wouldn't need a saber of any kind to make me quake in me boots! Even if her were holding a small kitten I'd be petrified. I think the fact that the emperor has no weapons makes him more fearsome than anyone with any kind of weapon.

I agree with JMK. The main question I have is "why?". Yes, it would look neat, but what would be the point in the story? A straight blade works just fine. Weapons generally don't have their shape and nature determined by style. If there's a plausible reason why the Emporer would use a curved blade, I'd like to hear it.

If he can use the dark side lightning, he certainly doesn't need a lightsaber!

I don't think they have to explain a curved blade at all. I mean, you get the idea of the force, that lightsabers exist at all, or that they are projected from a flat surface (sorry, replica props guy here :p ).
Still, I agree with the main vote on this. It would be a gimmick and I hate the idea.

The hilt not the blade itself is bent.

Yeah, I read that, too. Makes a heck of a lot more sense.:)
