Speaking of which, is it now called "21st Century FOX?":)

This has been a pet peeve of mine since New Years, so I beg forgiveness in advance.
But why would it be 21st Century Fox when we are not yet in the 21st Century?
There was no year Zero, so the first decade was 1-10, which means the second decade didn't start until year 11, which means the first century was 1-100, which means the second century didn't start until 101. Which means the 20th Century didn't start until 1901, which means the 21st Century doesn't start until 2001. Which also means that we are not yet in a new decade, not yet in a new century, and definitely not yet in a new millenium as all these people keep claiming we are. The only milestone last New Years represented was a new Year, and that it was the year 2000.
Like I said, it's been a pet peeve of mine all year, so sorry again for the rant. :)

based on that logic the year 1990 would be in the eighties and 1980 would be in the seventies.

based on that logic the year 1990 would be in the eighties and 1980 would be in the seventies.
That "logic" is grade school mathematics. Simple addition.
Follow me here: There was no year zero -- this is a fact.
The Gregorian calender starts with year One. Now, would anyone argue that the first decade was not 1-10? That would be ten years. One decade = ten years. So, that means the second decade would start in year 11. Now, for year 20 to be part of the twenties, then the second decade would consist of 11-19. But guess what? That's ony 9 years. Ooops. So yes, by this logic (which is mathematics) 1980 was the last year of the seventies. 1990 was the last year of the 80s and 2000 is the last year of the 90s. Those titles (70s, 80s, 90s) are arbitrarily given, and would normally be right ONLY IF THERE WAS A YEAR ZERO. (0-9 is the single digits, 10-19 is the teens, 20-29 is the twenties, but ONLY WITH ZERO counted in the equation. Once zero is taken out, then 1-10 is the first decade, 11-20 the second, 21-30 the third and so on... There really is nothing hard to understand about this.)
Oh, so now we are in a dimension between times??
No. We are now in the last year of the 20th century. The last year of the "90s" decade, the last year of the 2nd millenium (since the birth of Christ which was given the year "1" -- and yes, there most probably was a mistake made in calculating the year of Christ's birth, but that really has nothing to do with the established Gregorian calander which claims that Christ was born year 1.) The calander goes from 1 BC to 1 AD with no Zero in between.... (And yes, I said 2nd millenium; I feel I have to make that clear too, since by the lack of understanding most people have about this 2000 thing, I fully expect someone to think that the 2000s would be the second millenium. So here that is: 1-1000 first millenium; 1001-2000 second millenium. 2001-3000 third millenium...)
The media (and the White House, in America) did a grave dis-service to the population when they hyped 2000 as the new millenium. (I say the White House because around New Years, I went to the official site and they had a quote that said: (not verbatim) "Even though the new millenium doesn't officially begin until 2001, we are celebrating it in 2000 because that is when most people believe the millenium starts." This, my friends, is the perfect example of the flaws of "outcome based education" where it doesn't matter if you're wrong, as long as you feel good about being wrong. And I guess if most people believe something that is wrong, we can make wrong = right.
If humanity actually reverses the trend and people start getting smarter, then history will judge this generation as fools for celebrating the new millenium one year early.
Sorry for any offense anyone takes. I get a little obnoxious when people start thinking something is a matter of opinion and is relative when it is a mathematical fact and thus absolute in nature.

Totally correct.
However, $$$ are what make people tick these days, and the simple fact that you could start writing "2000" on all your stuff, and not 19xx was a huge opportunity to make alot of cash. I'm not saying the white house is responsible alone for this, but they didn't help with their "If it feels good, then just do it" attitude.

Actually, Doc, that millennium thing is a pet peeve of mine, also. However, since Episode 2 comes out in 2002, it WOULD be the 21st century, no?:)
I read a National Geographic editorial explaining why the millennium started in 2001, and they concluded by saying that most people don't care, and they just want to see all the 9's change to 0's. Still no excuse to use the wrong term, though.
That's funny about the White House's website. I guess if everyone believed Washington was born on January 1, they'd move the holiday?;)

I was going to add that about episode 2 being in the 21st century, but it seemed to take some of the steam out of my rant. :)
The thing that made me really miffed was during the New Years celebration, one of the channels covering Times Square had someone on explaining that the millennium doesn't start until 2001, and the anchor pointed to the crowd of people outside the window (I don't remember what channel it was, so I don't remember the anchor) and said: "If you can convince all those people . . ." and dismissed the person reporting the truth as a wacko! If the media, who only pretend to care about reporting the truth, wasn't more into money and hype than actual truth, then all those people out in Times Square wouldn't have been misinformed in the first place!
But onto FOX. I don't know if this is right or not, but the last time I saw a FOX logo, it said: FOX Searchlight Company, or something to that effect.
And Bromine, I didn't mean to pick on your post. :) It's just that I've been hearing this "first of the new millennium" thing a lot lately, and it's been starting to bug me all over again. :)

I've just ignored the whole 2000 V. 2001 issue. Of course the millennium doesn't start until 2001, but most people aren't aware of it and they just don't care. Hell, the actual year 2001 has come and gone already. I can't remember the name of the monk who screwed up the Gregorian calendar, but there was a miscalcualtion made hundreds of years ago and the calendar is off by 3 or 4 years. This was all in a Time article on the millennium last year. And I wouldn't just blame the U.S. media, it seemed as if the whole globe was partying down on 12/31.

I have no problem including the Global Media. :)
I have no respect for the media (US or Global) anymore. I place them only slightly ahead of the Academy of Motion Pictures for deserving my respect.
