I just read in an article on the forcenet that Lucasfilm confirmed today that the Neimoidians are actually are from Duros and also appeared in the Episode IV in the cantinea scene here is the picture.

I think they do look alike and it actually makes some sense Duros was a complete wasteland probably caused by the Trade Federation's constant industrial work which destroyed the planet. I wonder how quick this revelation will show up in the books and the movies now.

I'm glad they finally confirmed it. They just looked too damn similar to not be the same species.

that's just a happy coincidence. The neimodians were originally desinged to looke just like the battle droids, on the starwars behind the magic cd rom of episode 1 the have the drawings of them. I believe someone was just watching the movie saw that they looked similar and lucasfilm people jumped on it to say that it was intentional.

actually from the guy who made them -
lucas went in and told him to make them similar to the duros, then the droids were made after them

That's really neat; never noticed it before! Sort of goes to show that all Neimoidians aren't leaders of the Trade Federation. (Just like not all of Maul's species are neccessarily Sith, etc)

Here is something else interesting this is the from the star Wars encyclopedia and its listing of Duro the name of the planet (I accidently added an S to it) Here is the listing Duro A planet in the Duro system, it is homeworld of a species known as Duros--who have large eyes, then slits for mouths, and no noses--have been traveling space and hauling cargo for thousands of years. Their star system is filled with vast, orboting cities and smaller depots and shipyards. It is governed by a group of starship corporations; political decisions are made by stockholders who tried to remain neutral in the Galactic Civil War. I am going to stop their because the rest of it deals with the planet. Most of that sounds like the Trade Federation especially the starship corporations part. I wonder how much Lucas and his people knew about this connection before the movie, I mean I like it I am glad they finally told us where they were from.

I wouldn't be surprised if they leafed through their old notes and sketches of the Cantina scene looking for an alien race that matched the general profile of the Trade Federation. Some of the concept sketches have a brief description of the alien species scribbled in next to it (at least the stuff I've seen).
