If Episode 2 is a crapfest...

After seeing some "fans'" reactions to TPM, I'm curious what everyone's reaction would be if Episode 2 is a complete and total stinker. I'm talking shameless plugs (Obi-Wan cooling off with a can of Pepsi), cheesy characters (including a guest appearance by Elmo the Muppet), and the lamest action you've ever seen ("Hercules" meets "MI2"). You get the idea: Undeniable bomb. No redeeming qualities at all.

So the question is, what would you do, and what do you think others would do? Would you denounce everything Star Wars, call Lucas evil, and spend the rest of your life on the Internet telling people how much you hate Star Wars? Would you still enjoy Star Wars, but the mere mention of Ep2 cause you to burst into a tirade in which you describe everything bad about it? Or would you go the other way and love it just because it's Star Wars, convincing yourself that it's the greatest movie ever and other people just don't "get it"?

O'm positive the movie will be awesome; this is just one of those hypothetical, philosophical "alternate universe" questions.:)

What would I do if EP2 was as bad as Star Trek V? I'd stop collecting EP2 toys and stick to just vintage and classic POTJ figures.
Now that I think about it, I'd probably just sit there in stunned silence. As I left the theater I'd convince myself I must have been tired. I'd show up that Saturday and catch the matinee. If it still sucked then I see it again with my son, hoping against hope that it was simply aimed at kids and that I was just too "old". If my son fell asleep or began crying during the Jar Jar musical number then I'd have to finally accept the truth. Either way, GL still gets 3 tickets purchased at my expense.

I am one of those who HATED TPM with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns. And I hold out very little, if any hope that Ep.2 will be any better. The same guy is writing and directing it who wrote and directed TPM. Maybe Ep3 will be cool with the fall of the Jedi and all, but I think GL is too soft to pull it off.

For me, there is only the original trilogy. It will always be great, even if ALL of the new movies suck more than a three dollar whore. I don't even consider TPM a SW movie. I block it out. If 2 and 3 are better movies, then there will only be five SW films for me. But that's a big IF.

TPM IS a Star Wars film, whether you consider it one or not. Also, you're correct that Episode II is being directed and written (with a little help) by the same guy who made TPM. But he's also the same guy who wrote and directed ANH. And he co-wrote ESB and ROTJ. I think he knows his stuff :)

Episode One was Awesome!..so it had Jar Jar BFD!, at least it had Natalie! as will EP2 and EP3!

If E2 sucks, I will watch it until I am so brain numb from it, that I won't know the difference.

Seriously, if it sucks, I'll see it at least 5 times, buy it on video/DVD and let it gather dust, or maybe give it the odd viewing. But I'd be very dissappointed and saddened.

I really went to episode 1 with the expectation that it would suck.I walked around for months before the opening ,trying to tell myself if it sucked Its not the end of the world(no joke)But I went and seen it and loved it!!! I really do not know what I will do if it sucks, All I can do is pray Its AWESOME!!.

I'd probably just view it the same way I do Star Trek V and the Holiday Special: tragic mistakes. For the most part I'd probably just ignore it and go on with life like the movie never happened.

The reason I brought up this thread is that lately I've come across a bunch of people that didn't like TPM and were apparently so crushed that they spend all their time just talking about how much they hate it. If you go to the message boards at TF.N, most everyone there just sits around complaining about TPM. I really don't understand that because if I hateed a movie that much, I'd undoubtedly not want to talk about it and wouldn't hang around looking for an excuse to bash it.

I agree with those sentiment, I wonder sometimes if some people just bash TPM because they think all "true" star wars fans hate. Back to your hypothetical question which I find highly unlikely myself but if it did come about I would be stunned. More than likely though I would first act very delusionly and say it was great much like I did about Lost World and Batman and Robin only realize later how bad it actually was. Still I would not hate Star Wars no less than I hate Jurassic Park because it is only one movie and for me anyway the other four are great films and it would not negate that at all.

Yeah, with what I know of the talent of the folks making it, I think it'll be very hard for George to completely mess it up to the STV level. Even so, if that was the case, I'd just try toforget it and hope Ep3 would make up for it.

Anyway, I don't think we have to worry about E2 stinking. In a recent interview, Ewan said that the script for E2 was MUCH better than TPM's and that it would be a far better movie. He also said that beating TPM's script wasn't hard to beat. Or something like that.

Well IF episode II goes bad there will not be even III.
I wished that TPM was a clasic but it wasan't,BUt then again it was a near clasic and a great entertaining film.BUT Episode II must not be just a great entertaining film it must be what ANH and ESB was instand clasic dudes.I haven't post in the foroums for a loooooooooooong time bec i was on a mission from god!(j/k)
Just a few min ago i readed what ust have been the real plot of episode II-it had so many twist's and drama and adventure that brain almost axploded!I am nod kidding if what i seen was the real thing then we are getting ready for what must be the greatest adventure drama for the new millennium!And don't worry jar jar was almost out of the picture just a few min. of screen time.I HOPE I HOPE I HOPE it was the real thing i saw...PLEASE GOD!
