Sorry about that. I thought I was editing another theme. :( :( :(

No prob. This was almost the same thing I did yesterday, except that mine applied the seperate theme for me and me only. I thought I had done it to the whole board. x_x

That's the part I don't get. I started off a new theme called 'Basic' and was applying the changes to it, but when I hit 'Save' it suddenly effected the 'Default' scheme too. :\

We all need to take some crash courses in this software to get a complete handle on it. It would be nice to be able to customize individual forums to some extent too, like the RPG Network Database link at the top of the OOC RolePlaying Forum.

Could we perhaps put a panel on the side of the forum with info and links to other sites? Like what TGC did?
I've seen another vB forum use something similar:
http://www.apolyton.net (click on the 'Forums' link).

I can't even find the forums link. :p That place is a mess!
I think I'm getting a pretty good handle on the software. I was having difficulty implementing this one particular hack, but I found out that there's a bug in it - Talking to the author of it now. Other than that, I do have things pretty well down pact.
(going to write down the current color values in case this happens again)

Only way I know of right now would be to add some tables to the header and footer, which really isn't that difficult, but would apply to every forum including the front page.
I can't find the Forum link either.

I know I'm obviously biased, but I love the current layout - I haven't seen many better: Ezboard, vB or UBB. I was going to submit it to the vB board of the month contest.

I think I could probably make some type of frame border similar to the one i made at Dragons Lair, which would not interefere too much with the current layout and would be trim enough filesize wise to load quickly.
Of course I would want to make it more Star Wars-ish as opposed to Oriental.

Here's a link to the forums:

Probably goes without saying that Ihaven't actually visited their homepage in about a year. I just knew there'd be a link somewhere. :)

We can perhaps see about making that one of the alternate layouts. Or at least keeping this one as an alternate.
(Hugs the glowing blue layout)

We could make this theme the default one, then let the user decide.
That's what Apolyton does - they have 2 versions of each theme - one with the sidebar, the other without.

Ah. That explains why I didn't see the sidebar you speak of there. :p

What kinds of links would or should we include in something like this?
I am of the opinion that the RPG Network Database is one for the Roleplayers, but I don't really wish to make this a roleplaying specific board and would like to keep the diversity of all of the sections. Make it comfortable for everyone, though having sect like choosable styles is also a decent idea.

I was thinking you could have links to other boards eg. TFN, Jedi.Net, CC.Net etc, as well as other SW sites.
It would have been ok if we still had the RPF (there are around a dozen or so Replica Props boards out there), but with them moving we may lack a bit of stuff to put in there.

How about some links to these forums and sites and I'll start playing with an idea I had to match the glowing blue Scheme Nup is in love with.
A small top strip(similar to the vBulliten control buttons under the banner) with some image mapping would be rather efficient. I could utilize tables, so that no matter the resolution or size of your window, the strip would span the entire top section of the window, in a small thin strip.

Let's see here:
Star Wars.com - http://www.starwars.com
Jedi.Net - http://www.jedi.net
TheForce.Net - http://www.theforce.net
CoruscantCity.Net - http://www.coruscantcity.net
Star Warz - http://www.starwarz.com
Rebel Scum.com - http://www.rebelscum.com
Boba Fett.com - http://www.bobafett.com
SWFans.Net - http://www.swfans.net (doesn't hurt to plug the homepage :) )
Those ones are off the top of my head. You could also add in necessary Roleplaying links (RP Database for instance) as well in a 'Roleplaying' Section of the bar.

And you guys can feel free to change the default color scheme. I just want to keep this one as one of the optional ones. :p

Hmmm, that's a nice idea, though it may be confusing for unsure posters - they might click on the forum name out of curiousity and be whisked away to the RPF without knowing what's going on.
TheHolo.Net

It could be changed to a single forum and explained in the description what it is exactly.
Champion of the Force
Sep 21st, 2001, 12:40:36 AM
That would work, but I wouldn't want too many such forums whisking people away, lest we divert all our traffic. :)
BTW, what's Brandon's position on all of this? I read beaz's thread back on the old forum and he seemed a bit upset about the proposed RPF board.
TheHolo.Net
Sep 21st, 2001, 12:42:23 AM
He has registered here and been granted Admin access, so he should be able to get in here, though I haven't seen him post.
Champion of the Force

I don't think he gets involved with the board administration - he just wanted a Replica Props forum in support of his section on the homepage.
That was why he wasn't too pleased with the proposed new board for the RPF and the closing of the one on SWFans - he saw it as stealing his own forum away.

I had to ditch a few of the links you provided since I didn't want to make the top and bottom bars to wide for low resolution displays or make them thick. I think I chose wisely. :)
I also took the opportunity to add some META tag keywords so the forums may start showing up on some of the search engines. :D

Goody good good. :)
So, are we going to call ourselves 'SWFans.Net Forums', or just 'SWForums' (like TFN has it's 'Jedi Council' forums)?

Well, about the only thing that really says "SWForums" is the url. We've been changing most everything else to read "SWFans.net"

Something else I would like to do to tweak the look of the board a little, is make these images
http://www.swforums.net/forum/images/
Look and feel a little more sci-fi
<img src=http://www.swforums.net/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif>
Would look kinda cool I think, if we could have a little data pad instead.

BTW, I chanegd the option so now the icon automatically defaults to the notepaf icon if the user doesn't select. Just thought it looked weird with all those blank spaces on the page. :)
