The light patter of the rain went unnoticed save for the mud it created from the dirt. The squish of boots in it would make more noise then what the hunter desired, noise that could alert the prey and let it flee before the predator was ready. But whether the noise of the rain was sufficient to mask his movements or perhaps the mammal mistook the footsteps for one of its own pack, it made no move but to continue grazing amongst the tall grasses.

Preer took one last glance around before carefully notching the bow and letting the arrow fly. His aim was true and the arrow pierced the hide of the nerf. The animal took off running with Preer in hot pursuit. Another arrow and then a third imbedded itself in the animal, slowing it enough for Preer to overtake it. The nerf lunged at him with its horned head but Preer jumped atop it instead, riding it just long enough to withdraw his knife and slit the throat of the beast. Letting him be thrown off, Preer took a mud bath over being crushed as the beast collapsed to the ground and expired.

Sheathing his knife and retrieving his bow, he set to work cleaning the animal and preparing to cut away what he needed. A new skin would be fashioned while meat would be taken for consumption. Preer was one of the few Rutans who had stayed on Senali far past the age normally required for the hunting tradition. He enjoyed the hunt but he also enjoyed spending time learning about the subculture of the Senalians, especially his love and hopefully future mate, Dewaari.

However things were becoming difficult for Preer and the others. In the past there have been uprisings against the Empire, enough so that a fleet base had been established on the moon of Senali and a garrison on the main planet of Rutan. Now, the pirates that had once been driven off by the Empire have returned and in full force, with the result that Senali is now overrun by Imperial crews and troops. Lockdowns and curfews have been implemented just in case the natives were planning to revolt again.

Preer smiled darkly as he thought about how right the Empire was, although this time things would turn out much differently.

Awakening with a start, Anne sighed as the nightmare fled from her mind and left the terrible memories in its place. Glancing over at the chrono and seeing what time it was, she knew she wouldn't be getting anymore useful sleep tonight. Beginning her day two hours early, Anne went to the refresher and then slipped on her uniform.

Upon heading to the mess and grabbing a light breakfast her next stop was not to the bridge but rather to the command room towards the rear of the ship up on the spire. When she arrived on the turbo lift there was but a few people on duty but the main night shift officer was a fairly old friend of hers.

"Major Steedstrong, do you have anything important to report?" asked Anne and surprising her old friend in the process.

"Admiral! No...nothing too important anyways. We have several reports from both the Hunter and the Privateers around Objective Oscar," answered Sturfe Steedstrong after whirling around and saluting.

"Well what word from the Hunters?" asked Anne to start off with?

"Well Agent Artemis just reported in that the number of crews and troops taking port of call on the moon has risen by about another ten percent of or so which would correspond with the Privateer report. Agent Aristaeus reports that the garrison has become more active on the main planet with curfews and lockdowns initiated mainly on the youth."

"Okay and what is the report from the Privateers?" Anne wanted to know next.

"Task Force Reaper reports continued success but Task Force Vanguard reports casualties from an encounter with an Imperial Force between Objective Oscar and Objective Alpha. What they expected to be an Imperial Resupply Convoy turned out to be just that, but with a little more than what they bargained for. Three escort frigates, six carrack cruisers, and a dozen bulk cruisers. Apparently the frigates and carracks were towing a dozen additional IPV's to Objective Oscar. Y-wing Long probe reports indicate only half the Carracks returned to Alpha along with all of the Frigates and Bulk Cruisers a day later," reported Steedstrong.

"Hmmm, the Imperial presence there grows. I think the time is right to initiate Operation Huntsman. I'll be heading to the bridge, be sure to notify the day shift when they come on duty to begin full preparations.
