View Full Version : Character Pages/Infobox mess

If we are going to 'standardize' what a character page looks like, etc, and make things easier on people to create character pages, regardless of faction or scenario, then I believe we can do it! At the very least we can settle on what we want these pages to look like, what colors to use, etc.

Colors per faction (in SW) or just one color for all SW pages? If so, what?

One color each per general RP scenario?

We have the Infobox template http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php/Template:Infobox that has sections that will simply not appear if you don't fill them in. Jace made this a few years ago and it's wonderful. You can customize the colors to whatever and it is good for all SW characters.

He also made one for the MU universe http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php/Template:Infobox_MU , and I'm going to do one for WoD today. That means we have a lot of infoboxes that can be deleted - where they are included in someone's page will become obvious and then they can be replaced by the 'standard' one when people get to it.

There are a TON of infoboxes though, and some are like "infobox ROOM" or "SHIP" and those are separate from the character sheets and would be kept I assume. To delete anything on the wiki they have to be moved to the Delete category for an admin to take care of, so even if we make a mistake while sorting things out we can easily correct it while they're still in the Delete category.

Once things have been sorted, I or someone else can fill in the "BioSheet" templates with the new standard look (as opposed to the old look no one uses anymore except on old pages) and bob's your uncle. Maybe?

So find an example of a page you like or a few that have things you like and we can get to deciding.

ALSO if the Infobox (for SW characters) is missing a field you'd like to see included just post that and it can be added.

edit: also on list we have a template for Alliance or Imp ships and those can be combined into one new infobox. All of our different infoboxes were created for different colors because we didn't know how to make one where you could designate a color, but Jace did that in 2010 so it's high time we got with the program. :)

So remove all the myriad of ship infoboxes and make one with "IF" fields so cover all the bases http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php/Template:Infobox_Ship_Class this one is a good candidate for changing

http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php/Category:Infoboxes <--I did some sorting and this is what I came up with for saving! WoD template incoming.
http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php/Template:WOD_infobox I KNEW I MADE ONE :D

For keeping an altering once we decide =

Bio Sheet Myth Character (http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php/Template:Bio_Sheet_Myth_Character) (No need to fiddle with this in my opinion so it's on the list to keep)

Bio Sheet SW Character (http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php/Template:Bio_Sheet_SW_Character)

Bio Sheet WoD Character (http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php/Template:Bio_Sheet_WoD_Character)

Then make a MU Bio Sheet.

Edit: Well, we can't exactly choose a standard look unless people post some opinions. I know you've been reading this! ;) Throw out some hex codes for colors and pick a page that has the type of headings you like.

Personally I like the "main page" blue for SW, maybe a silver/grey for MU, Myth is already green, and WoD needs... some... other.... color.... like....purple-ish? I think light enough colors so we can use black text over the top of them and it isn't such a great contrast to the white of the background.

I like the headers with rounded corners.

I have an idea for something a little different, but I was too busy visiting my teeny-tiny twin nieces yesterday to work on anything to post up. The headers we've been using are good, but if we're serious about being clean, consistent, and user friendly across the board, we might be able to go one better.

I'll pull together a demo a little later today, if I get the chance.

Sounds cool. :)

I know the headers we've been using vary wildly from page to page, though, that's part of the problem I think. I do like using headers though, as opposed to just the ==title== ===subtitle=== formatting of the wiki itself.

So, I was pretty sure people would have opinions on this. :lol

I have opinions, just not time, and of the many new things being discussed of late, the colour of infoboxes just doesn't rate high in my priorities list. That is not to say I don't appreciate the effort you're putting into this, but I hope it at least will put some perspective on why there has been little in the way of feedback here.

That said, the colours you suggested above sound suitable for their given scenarios, at least to me. As far content goes, you may want to include "Tradition" and "Cabal" fields in the WoD infobox, for all the mages out there.

Sorry, wasn't meaning to imply this was a high priority. ^_^;

That's not what I said. I said it wasn't a high priority for me, personally. There are probably others who feel differently.

Also, in the Star Wars and World of Darkness templates, will the infoboxes have colours and will the different fields be separated by lines, as per the Myth one, or is this part of the new design? If so, I'd like to weigh in that I do prefer it with lines and colour.

Yes they'd have lines and color, they're just not specified on the info sheet as is - it's set up so you can pick whatever colors you want when you add it.

The wiki is up and running again but some of the current Infobox templates seemed to be broken. I am making this post to remind myself to look into it, but if you want to do it, go for it!
