Off the back of the Clone Wars ending and aside from Detours, which is still in the works :shakefist, it sounds like Disney are planning a whole new animated TV series.

“Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming. We are exploring a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming.”

Is it just me, or does that sound like 'Old Republic' to anyone else? I might just be reading too much into them saying that it would be an era not explored in film or TV, but handily omitting '...or video games or books'

To be fair, it would be hard to find an era that hasn't been explored in books!

But Old Republic makes sense to me. The only alternative would be something set after the original trilogy, and I have to imagine they'll leave that territory for Episodes VII-IX. Republic history is so vast that they could tell virtually any kind of story they wanted to. It could easily be centuries removed from either KOTOR or SWTOR with no explanation needed.

Though on second thought, it could be something between the trilogies. Weren't there rumors at some point of a live-action series that would deal primarily with the underworld during the early years of the Empire?

Peter and I were speculating that this might happen the other day. :cyduck

I hope their plan is to get the Clone Wars creative team to make a "between the trilogies" series. They'd be able to carry on using characters they've introduced to audiences (Boba Fett, Tarkin, Hondo, Ahsoka, Ventress), as well as introducing new original series characters.

I'd be happy seeing the adventures of a young Han Solo in animated form: that way there'll never be anyone but Harrison Ford playing the role. :ohno
