This game came out this week, and I eventually want to get it. Was just wondering if anybody here has played it yet? The last Simcity game (Societies) was a disaster while Simcity 4 was a great game. I am hoping this one is more like the latter. Of course there is the multiplayer portion, but I read somewhere you can make the game private if you want. How does the multiplayer stuff work?

OH MY GOD is it this week?!
I wish I had money. :cry
No, I really really wish I had money. Anyone want to buy the game for me? I'll start a kickstarter.

It's best you don't buy it right away...

What are your tier levels and how much is the start pledge?

LOL I am glad I have waited. I did read some reviews that said the graphics and the game itself is great but the servers are the problem. Hopefully, they will have these server problems fixed when I get it.

Having to be signed in online to play a single player game seems so silly. I hope they change that.

My Girlfriend got this and she's had nothing but server problems that have resulted in her losing her entire city each time. Definitely better to wait for them to fix it.

There are an increasing number of games that require either a connection to activate the game, or a constant connection whilst playing (I'm looking at you Diablo III) - it's redonkulous.

Yeah I have noticed that. I don't mind it too much for games that require Steam or something similar like Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, and Civilization V. In those cases, you can play offline. They need to change it to follow those games. I know why they are doing it, to try to prevent piracy.

I liked Simcity 4 better, thought it was an improvement. I think I still have that somewhere.

You can pledge at $1, $5, and $20, and the rewards are "undying gratitude", "thank you note", and "naked pictures" respectively. PM me for my paypal info. ;)
I didn't say who the pictures were of

A good thing that might come of this is that maybe the game will be cheaper sooner? After they fix the problems, of course.

I doubt it. Considering EA won't refund anyone who wants to 'return' the game, I can't see them dropping the price once it's fixed for a while (since that'd be a bit of a slap in the face for people who bought it at the full cost and had to wait to play it)

Seems more and more games are going this way. In a digital future where almost everything has a deep online presence, it seems the obvious approach to combat piracy.

Although there have been a couple of instances in recent times when the model has shown it's weaknesses. Diablo III comes to mind. For people who have legit bought the game, want to play it singleplayer and have an internet connection, its ridiculous that your ability to do so should be scuppered by the games own server. Likewise, sometimes you don't have access to the internet and want to buy your legally purchased game, but you can't.
It's not a form of DRM that I approve of.

Well it seems that EA and Activison Blizzard never realized that if people buy their games on day one they do that to actually play it on the same one as well.

EA is giving anyone who bought Simcity a free copy of another EA game:

Not sure which games will be available for free.

Awesome! I have no complaints and I'm getting a free game for it :)
Well...I did have to wait 20 minutes last night but I was watching Markiplier anyway! And today I've had no issues whatsoever.

So I was randomly showing the missus my amazing industrial city, pointing out my oil industry when I click on what just so happened to be a truck moving freight from a particularly named factory. So I HAD to find it on my map and...

Simcity, hacked and cracked?
I am very tempted to buy the old one you linked, Andrew, I loved that game. ^_^;

As I understand it, while it may be possible to play offline, I doubt the game would be considered playable since a hell of a lot of the simulation is calculated on the server and most consumer PC's won't be up to the task, so if it does run it would likely be incredibly slow. Thats what I've read and heard at least.
If anybody actually does get the game, I'd love to buddy up in a region and build together!

I see Simcity is going on sale for 39.99. I might pick it up now that is on sale, and it sounds like it is easier to get on the servers. I have read there are still some AI bugs in the game.
