Apparently we're getting a sequel to Finding Nemo.

Pixar, I am disappoint. :(

I can certainly see why revisiting Finding Nemo is smart from a business perspective. However, I'm really struggling to see how it's justified from a story perspective. Like Monsters, Inc (and like WALL-E and Up), Finding Nemo was a beautifully put together movie that had an almost fairytale quality, and that ended on a happily-ever-after. You don't need to follow that up. We don't need to see Nemo's next adventure, because his story is complete.

It's hard to hear news like this without getting a little pessimistic about Pixar. :\

Maybe they have a great story idea for it. I mean, Toy Story was pretty perfect but the sequels are very good also.

Yeah, except Toy Story was intentionally left open-ended. There isn't a "happily-ever-after" with Toy Story: there's a "the adventure continues" ending. A sequel to The Incredibles could work, because that was also left with that kind of ending. Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc didn't end in such a way that a sequel makes sense: that's why Monsters has a hideously contrived prequel that from what we've seen so far captures absolutely none of the magic of the original.

Pixar doesn't often misfire, so I'll reserve judgement until we hear a little more about the story they've got in mind.

Hate to say it, but I agree, this has bad move all over it and beign done for the wrong reasons. Why not an Incredibles sequel, which CAN be easily done logically without retreading old ideas and frankly fans have been howling for?

The only "misfire" tho of Pixar has been Cars 2 (Debateably) so chances are it'll work.

I dunno tho - Finding Nemo 2? Really? Who outside of accountants wants this?

My sentiments exactly. And if Mark and I agree on something, it must be true. ;)

I'd argue that Brave was also a misfire. It wasn't a bad movie per se, but it lacked the charm and spark that Pixar movies normally have. Perhaps the mistake was focusing on human characters (whereas Pixar otherwise almost exclusively uses anthropomorphic characters), or maybe it was the "just for the sake of it" setting in Scotland, but it just fell totally flat for me.

Similarly, what we've seen of Monsters University looks to be the same thing. It could well be a very good movie, but it looks like the kind of thing that Dreamworks would come out with: not the kind of heart-warming fairytale that Pixar has previously been so good at.

I think Pixar's current problem is that their original people are too occupied spending/losing money on Disney movies like John Carter (which is actually pretty entertaining and should have been called "A Princess from Mars" like the book)

Oh I dunno. MU's trailer hints it's more Pixar than Dreamworks - and more Toy Story in tone with more humour and sight gags than the original Monsters Inc. I think I'm definatly keen to see this one.
