You know that you really want the next Song of Ice and Fire book when any news feed on Facebook just titled Breaking News acompanied by a picture of GRRM makes you think: "Don't you dare yourself to die before finishing a Dream of Spring!"
Talking about ASOIAF are you aware that they will start shooting scenes from a Dance with Dragon next year? This kind of just blew my mind...

I guess I will try to ask and discuss about insane details nobody care or abuse the enviroment for my advantage in a way the DM has not forseen it. This seems to worked rather well in RPGs based on my latest experiences.

It's not so much the OMGHORSEMEAT factor, at least certainly not for me and everyone I've spoken to about it, but the fact that if you pay for beef then that's what you should get. By now it's become quite apparent this is not an accident but an intentional deception, and it is criminal. Not to mention the possibility of there being bute present in the meat, which could present a health risk.
There has been, amongst some media commentators, a tone of dismissal to counter the usual overblown hysteria. Yes, there's nothing wrong with eating horse, and yes, it shouldn't present a health risk. No big, right? Wrong. It's offensive to think that, when the public have been lied to and have been paying for something they didn't want, that they should be expected to just get over it. Why? So the big fat meat maestros can wrangle more of their hard-earned dosh.
Edit: Furthermore, it's quite irresponsible of those claiming that there's nothing to worry about regarding this horse meat. These are the same people saying that it looks increasingly obvious that this is the result of criminal activity. So... what? They're putting their faith in the noble intentions of these meat-swapping criminals to only provide us with a safe, quality product. What a load of rubbish.

Try ibuprofen and ice. I have an ice pack in my freezer for whenever my tendinitis acts up... it's enough to take the edge off the pain and ease the swelling, so that I can hobble around reasonably okay until the drugs kick in. It's amazingly effective; not a long-term solution, but it's a good short-term fix.

The answer to this is absolutely, 100% entirely dependent on whether the person singing can, in fact, sing. If the world were a musical with an uneven distribution of singing talent, I imagine it would wind up much like, well, Eurovision.

I'm a white male and I'm fortunate to live in a democratic western society. This means that in my culture, when it comes to racism and sexism, I'm fair game. Whoops, I'd better not make an issue of it though, lest I be accused of overreacting or having no sense of humour or, that most unmasculine of traits, sensitive!
What's that? Oh, but throughout history you and your ilk have had to suffer prejudice and discrimination at the hands of society, so I'd better just suck it up. Then why don't we throw this whole notion of equality out the window and call it what it really is: payback.

What is it with people making Facebook accounts for their children? I imagine being a child of the current generation, reaching my teens and realising that my parents have been documenting my life online for me since I was born, complete with status updates and photos and videos... and just being overwhelmed by how much of my identity had been defined and publicised, on a platform that you have to try increasingly harder and harder to wipe your presence clean from.

No one in my family does this, but I could sort of understand if they did. I have a very big and very spread-out family. I have cousins in Bristol, Wales, the Isle of Wight, and even as far afield as New Zealand. I very rarely see any of them... and neither does my sister, who now has three kids. Most of what I know about my NZ cousin's family, and most of what she knows about my sister's family, has been learned through Facebook. I could understand the logic behind creating a Facebook profile for your child so that you can share pictures/etc with far-flung relatives in a single location, rather than having to send those images to relatives individually, and potentially end up missing someone out.
I think it depends on the person responsible, really. If they're careful with the privacy settings, and if you're using Facebook just to show those images to close friends/family, then I don't think it's necessarily any worse than the usual amount of embarrassing information that parents usually share with their kids.
Then again, Facebook is full of weirdos. My dad (and apparently several people he knows) have Facebook pages for their pets, and post in-character on other people's walls. I had an ex who had a Facebook page for her dead dog, and used to leave messages on it's wall to "talk" to it. People find all kinds of weird things to do with Facebook. :uhoh

I don't have a problem with people putting pictures of their kids on Facebook, on their own account. That makes sense to me. Facebook is a tool for sharing, after all.
I just get uncomfortable at the idea of people making a Facebook profile as if you were the kid, updating its statuses ([So and so] is off to the park with [sister] and [brother]). Especially if they don't manage the privacy settings correctly. It's leaving a... footprint on the internet before the kid even has a choice whether or not s/he wants to be on Facebook and have their life turned into a Timeline.
Maybe I have just been watching too much Black Mirror recently :p

My cousin does it her for her daughter, who will never be able to walk, let alone work a computer or hold a conversation. It's her way of engaging her daughter more with the family when she's at home, with cute little status updates like "Just had a yummy dinner with my nanny!" followed by an indecipherable mash of letters from Lily signing off on it, so to speak. She's a very happy child and, as is the case with so many families, we don't see each other as much as we'd like to, so this is a nice way to remain in touch and involved.

Posting from the xbox because I can. Using the keyboard is amusing because the tapping sound the audio makes everytime I type a key is very different from the quiet typing I'm normally used to.

I like keyboards that make a lot of noise. I also like keyboards that are quiet.
I simply enjoy typing, I guess. The sound doesn't matter so much as the feel of the key when I press it. It has to feel soft but not too soft. If there's a hard click when you press down it's not right.

Thank you, darling! Before I left Frankfurt I found the office where I need to register and it's conveniently located next to my favourite restaurant in Friedberg, Roma Zwei. Celebratory wine and antipasto once all the paperwork is filed!
Also, I'm watching Born Free with my son and my tiny nephew, and I am pretty sure this was filmed next door to my uncle's house. I can see some scenery that looks almost exactly like where his property line used to mesh with his neighbors. I'mma have to call Kenya and ask him.

Totally pulled off a fixer hat trick tonight cause I'm awesome.
20 till the end of the shift, and the belts on 976 completely flew apart (utterly literally disintegrated to be frank). Being that they connect the pulley and the flywheel - essentially what gives the loom it's get-up and go, it's kind of a big blow-up.
With three dudes standing over me, I jacked up the drive motor, wrestled the old disintegrated belts off, and slapped the new belts on withing 15 mins. This is something that normally takes 20-30 mins.
But dammit I was the only fixer in S4 and fuck you I'm awesome and I fix shit.

"Win a skype date."
Good god, is this a thing now? The only redeeming part of the entire first date process is the fact that there's potentially dinner, desert, and alcohol involved. Without that, all you're left with is an awkward and embarrassing conversation with someone you're clearly attracted to but hardly know. Who would want that?!
If I want to feel all nervous and self-conscious while looking at video footage of a celebrity, I'd much rather do it without them watching me back, thanks. :uhoh

I have just come to a shocking realisation.
In the comics, the full name of General Zod - the villain in Man of Steel - is Dru-Zod.
That's right. His first name is Dru. Droo is General Zod.
I must admit, Mr Milligan, it's a cunning alias. Many of your peers (I'm looking at you, Martian Manhunter) aren't quite so ingenious at hiding their true alter ego in plain sight like that. And in truth, I might not have realised it were it not for your overwhelming excitement about a movie in which I now realise you are a main character. But I've seen through it now, villain. Your days are numbered.
I'm on to you. :mad

I despair.
This, after some UK schools are now banning children from playing with their best friends at school, and forcing them to only play in larger groups of kids they don't know as well.
The reason for this? So that kids don't suffer heartbreak when they might break up with their best friend. Basically, let's forego any meaningful relationships in favor of fleeting, casual encounters that offer no true personal growth.
I, too, despair.

I hadn't read about that, Mitch. I'll have to look it up. It sounds absurd. How would they even begin to enforce something as stupid as that?
Halajiin Rabeak
Mar 25th, 2013, 10:02:56 AM
Well, it's easy if you think about it. Assign every child a number, and then assign them play groups every day where they can only associate with the others assigned to their group, and every group is randomly assigned via computer every day.
Or, we could just let normal social development happen, where kids learn ACTUAL social skills. Just a thought...

I just realized how strange it will be to go to Montreal this year and stay with the in-laws. One of their two cats, the one that had cancer, died in the past week. It will be odd not hearing him ring the dingley bell at the back door to be let out. Or picking him up off the table against his furry little will. Or finding him constantly in our bed, there.
He was thirteen. And his name was Max.

The Star Wars setting has had a real kick in the pants recently, I'm not sure how much you're aware of, but it involves a significant shift on the political landscape and a time jump of about eight months - plenty of space for you to maneuver yourself out of a creative funk.
